Meals that Matter!

What can we say except that you are all amazing?

You are caring, loving, fun, and adventurous individuals who make a real difference in the lives of others. You help people who need kindness, who need nourishment, and who need to feel loved. Every single one of you contributes in your own unique way, and together we create something very special.

This month, we accomplished so much:

• 178 breakfast burritos made
• 162 pancakes prepared
• 156 handmade drop biscuits baked
• 113 family and single-size entrees completed
• 17 families served
• 72 people fed

The meals we provide will help sustain these families for a few weeks, and we even have extra food available if additional needs arise.

Those numbers are impressive, but what matters most is the love, compassion, and generosity behind every meal. Every burrito wrapped, pancake flipped, biscuit baked, vegetable chopped, and container packed tells someone, "You matter."

Thank you to the person who purchased the onion goggles! I think Jan was especially grateful for those.

The work we do is hard work, but it is also joyful work. It is the kind of work that changes lives, including our own.

Please know how grateful we are for each and every one of you. Meals That Matter would not exist without your dedication, your servant hearts, and your willingness to show up month after month.

One quick note: our next cook day is July 2. Since it falls just a few days before the Fourth of July, we're going to make it a fun Fourth of July-themed meal for our families. We would love to hear your ideas, so please send them my way!

Thank you again for everything you do. May God bless each of you abundantly for the kindness you share and the love you bring to our community.

With gratitude and big hugs ❤️

In his letter to the Romans, St. Paul encourages fellow Christians to uphold steady prayer, “Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.” As we continue to move forward with the Journey in Faith initiative, prayer serves as our foundation. Prayer for the people of God, especially parish staff members, and those who bear the yoke of leadership.

Having a set day of communal prayer will strengthen our bonds as an Archdiocesan community. Lifting up our souls, hearts and minds simultaneously surely will rise as a pleasing offering before God.⁣ This Wednesday, we will share a communal prayer to offer up for Journey in Faith.

Jesus opens His greatest sermon by turning every assumption upside down. The poor, the mourning, the meek, the persecuted, the blessed, all of them. The Beatitudes aren't a strategy for a good life. They're a portrait of who you become when you follow Him.

Real Presence. Real Body. Real Blood. Not symbol, not metaphor... Christ Himself, under the appearance of bread and wine. If we believed it the way we say we do, we would crawl to the altar. Today the Church holds up what every Mass holds up, and asks the world to look.

The rich gave from their surplus. She gave two coins... everything she had. God doesn't measure the size of the gift. He measures what's left after you give it.

He took an axe to a sacred oak the pagans said no god would let stand. It fell. No one died. The crowd went silent... and listened. He baptized a nation. At seventy-five he was killed by raiders while preparing converts for confirmation, a Gospel book raised over his head.

A scribe asked Jesus to rank the whole Law. He gave two: love God with everything you are, and love your neighbor as yourself. Everything else in Scripture hangs on these.

This is the final step in our "What in the JIF do we do now?" series.

In the apostle's creed, that we speak at every Mass, it is stated that we believe in the Holy Catholic Church and the communion of saints.

We believe in One church with many members.

Wherever we pray, wherever we worship, WE ARE CATHOLIC. Halleluiah!

Uganda, 1886. A king ordered his young Catholic pages to renounce their faith. They refused. He had them marched thirty-seven miles and burned alive. The oldest was twenty-five. The youngest was thirteen. St. Charles Lwanga led them in prayer to the end. Within a generation, Uganda became one of the most Catholic nations in Africa. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.
