Mark 10:18 New English Translation (NET Bible)

18 Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.

If the best of us are like the rest of us

then the best in us is in the rest of us

Good, better and best seem to be phrases of comparison.

Good should be good enough so why dwell on the “best”?

Are things than ever “better” if sublime will bring confusion?

and prove the separation of a few from the better than the rest?

Excellency we call the critters who are born in exultation.

Maybe the parents were nice folks or maybe they were rats.

If we are from whom we came we will inherit degradation

and somewhere in the line of things may turn us into “crap”.

For sin dwells in all of us and it makes us very filthy.

It keeps us from achieving the simple just and better good.

So sublime in being will take more than mankind can offer

It takes “All” of The Son of God and that’s well understood.

When we despise God's command to be holy and flee from fornication and all uncleanness, we are grieving the Holy Spirit and insulting our God. He has called us to holiness, and we must walk in holiness if we are to please Him.

Faith means believing without seeing. There are many things we believe without seeing – for example, the air. We do not see it, but we know it is there. For those of us who have faith in the Lord, we know he is real and our salvation is true because we believe without seeing. And, unlike an intangible object, we show affection towards him because we believe what he has done for us. How can we not be filled with love and joy knowing we have received this gift of salvation and will spend eternity with a Savior we know, but have not seen? It’s amazing.

There may be times when you struggle with knowing what to do in a situation. You may have been placed in this situation so that you will seek the Lord and find him. When we begin to think we are self-sufficient, we forget to seek God and turn more inwardly. This is a mistake! We should always seek our savior first above all else. He is always near to us and willing and able to give us more than we could ever need. When you need help, seek him and you will find him.

The fruit of the Spirit refers to the characteristics that we should be expressing as sons and daughters of God. They are the evidence of the nature of God inside of us. As a Christian you should be loving, kind, patient, gentle, good, faithful, meek, joyful, and peaceful. We have the Holy Spirit as our guide who will help us make decisions that reflect this nature of God, in our daily lives. Where are you lacking? Ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen you and He will give you the desires of your heart.

We should always strive to do good in every way and every place that we can. Our actions testify to the world of the God we preach is a good and loving God. Check your actions and your thoughts and ask yourself if you are truly reflecting the nature of God.

You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing things with logic. True power is restraint. If words control you that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass.

Lord,
Let us not be deceived by sinful lusts and be drawn away to live a corrupt life. Instead, help us to actively seek out the remnants of the old man in us, as if on a "search and destroy mission," using your Word as our only offensive weapon. But that weapon is mighty through God and able to pull down the most well defended fortresses of sin. We are confident in your Word and will run to it for help. Amen.

This message of loving your neighbor and not holding a grudge is so important because it is so difficult! This is why it is mentioned so many times. Holding a grudge is a pestilence to all true believers. There is a famous quote that is a good summation of a grudge: "grudges are like swallowing poison and hoping your enemy dies from it". This negative feeling that we carry towards another person is mostly reflected on our own disposition. The proverbs mention that here: holding a grudge is a way to devise evil. Mercy and Truth are how to devise good.
