This past Sunday, we held our annual service celebrating the sacrament of Holy Eucharist, led by the Reverend Bill Walker, a semi-retired Episcopal priest, who transitioned to the priesthood after a career practicing real estate law. We were pleased to welcome Colleen Allard-Smith, a junior at Furman University as our guest soloist. She sang beautiful renditions of “Amazing Grace” and “Give Me Jesus.”

This Sunday, we welcome back Jonathan Holston, Bishop of the South Carolina United Methodist Church. Cedar Mountain resident Wayne Bishop will provide music.

Brian Gilmer from Travelers Rest United Methodist led worship Sunday and was accompanied by Vance Jenkins from Buncombe Street Methodist as our guest musician. Reverend Gilmer preached an inspiring message entitled “Bucket Fillers and Bucket Dippers” and challenged everyone to consider if they regard themselves those who take from the bucket or who help keep the bucket filled so that others might drink. We enjoyed delicious homemade cookies and lemonade afterwards provided by Rusty and Cindy Brodie.

Wonderful Sunday at Faith Chapel August 6 with Toni Pate from Trinity Church in Greenville leading worship. She spoke about how God in his unfailing grace offers us second chances with a focus on John Mark as an unsung hero of the faith. Blake Ellege blew us away with his booming tenor voice with the old time gospel classic “Down to the River to Pray” and graced us with a touching rendition of “Amazing Grace.”

This past Sunday, Faith Memorial Chapel was indeed spirit- filled with worship led by the Reverend Canon Augusta Anderson from the Diocese of the Episcopal Church of Western North Carolina, along with two beautiful solos performed by Lisa Barksdale. The readings were from the Books of Matthew and Romans, and Canon Augusta’s homily focused largely on 5 of Jesus’ parables with special emphasis on the significance of the fishermen’s net as it relates to God’s kingdom and His ultimate dominion over all creation.

We look forward to seeing everyone this Sunday and the return of the Reverend Toni Pate from Trinity Church in Greenville.

Worship Sunday July 23 was led by the Reverend Ben Dorr from Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville. Reverend Dorr preached on God’s grace that constantly surrounds us even when we aren’t aware of it or deserve it and is ever present in the midst of our failures. Our guest musician was Patrick Starke, who performed the role of Peter Quent in The Turn of the Screw this summer at the Brevard Music Center and blessed us with his fine tenor voice. We enjoyed fellowship with lemonade and cookies on the patio following the service.

This morning we had a great service. Emily O'Connor filled the chapel with her beautiful voice and the Reverend Dr. Stephen Clyborne gave us a great message. One of the readings was from Matthew 13: 1-9, 18-23 (The Parable of the Sower) and Dr. Clyborne discussed how God is the sower of the seeds and how generous he is with his message and how mysterious it is that sometimes we hear his word and sometimes we do not. He related the seeds to our spiritual growth.

Dr. Fred Andrea III challenged us this past Sunday with his message of our how our society has lost reverence for God. Our guest musician, Dr. Craig Price, treated the congregants with his incredible bass-baritone voice with his selections of “The Call” by Vaughan Williams and “Give Me Jesus.” Following the service, we broke bread at the annual Faith Chapel picnic at the Old Bishop Place farm. Many thanks to our hosts and volunteers! What a wonderful day to worship and celebrate our Lord together!

Week 4 and Father’s Day at Faith Chapel brought a meaningful and inspiring message from the Rev. Dr. Pam Cole regarding God’s prophecy and timing from the book of Daniel. What a treat to have 95 year-old Barbara Stuckey back on the organ. She served as our regular organist for many years starting in 1987. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren provided our music. What a blessing it was!

Hope to see everyone this Sunday when we welcome the return of Keith Thompson from Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church. Always a privilege to have him lead worship.

On June 11, worship was led by the Reverend John Nieman, who is serving as Interim Rector at St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville, SC. Music was provided by the St. James choir, under the leadership of Karen Eshelman.

The Reverend Dr. Alexander Robert Mitchell led a movement to re-establish Faith Chapel in 1936 after it had fallen into disrepair upon the death of the original founder, Ellison Capers who died in 1906. Ellison Capers served as the Bishop for the Episcopal Church in South Carolina. Dr. Mitchell also founded St. James in 1904 and was serving as the Rector there at the time Faith Chapel was rebuilt. The first service was held July 10, 1938. The Chapel would be dedicated to the memory of Ellison Capers in 1941 and renamed “Faith Memorial Chapel” as a memorial to the Bishop.
