Last Wednesday, our 6th- and 7th-grade students marked Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day) by hosting a movie night and Q&A with director Denny Klein. The documentary "An Inconvenient Time" tells the story of Holocaust survivor Ruth Ravina, who was just two when Germany invaded Poland in 1939 and endured three concentration camps by age seven.

The film grew out of a B’nai Mitzvah project by sisters Evie and Rebecca Klein of West Caldwell, who were “twinned” with Ruth to learn her story. After seeing a recording of their first conversation, their father, Denny Klein, felt compelled to share it more widely: “It was like God tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘You have to do this.’” It was a moving night for all.

On Wednesday, our students realized the fruits of last year's labor. Last year, in commemoration of Kristallnacht (the Night of Broken Glass), our middle school students planted scores of daffodil bulbs as part of The Daffodil Project, a living memorial honoring the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust and symbolizing resilience, renewal, and enduring hope. This year, prayers were said among those beautiful, blooming daffodils on Yom HaShoah.

Camp Zeke visited Temple Sholom on Tuesday to let kids and parents know what it offers for its Summer camp in Lakewood, PA. It's an overnight summer camp where kids celebrate healthy, active living through fitness, cooking, sports, gourmet food, and joyful Judaism.

The youngest campers travel with their bunks, while the older campers create their day based on their interests. So whether a camper wants to run faster, get stronger, zen out in yoga, play sports, or cook impressive dishes, they can create their perfect day. It's a great option for kids.
