"And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you." - John 16:22
I've been thinking a lot about this Joy during this Easter Season (yes, I'm aware Easter was yesterday), but last night I heard someone mention this scripture. At this point in the scriptures, Jesus is talking to His disciples. He tells His friends that He's not going to be with them for a while because He will be with the Father, and that for that period of time when He won't be with them, they're going to be full of sorrow. But then He tells them that He'll be back, and when they get to see Him again, they'll be filled with so much joy, that nobody can take that away from them!

And it made me think about my own life. There have been a lot of times where it felt as though Jesus had left me. During those times, I felt a lot of sorrow, a lot of pain, maybe even some guilt or anger. But every time that happened, I ended up finding Him again. He always came back. It took me a while to realize it, but oftentimes it's like with Thomas, where I'm looking right at Him and don't even realize it until He shows me in a very personal way that it really was Him all along--that He was always with me and I just couldn't see it.

I love the promise made in this verse, that when we see Him again--when we find Him again--we will have so much joy that nobody will be able to take it from us! This is a beautiful promise, one that we see over and over again throughout the scriptures any time we are asked to keep commandments and to make and keep covenants that bring us closer to Christ--which makes sense when you realize that keeping those covenants and commandments help us to find Him.

Continue to look for Christ, and you will find Him, even if it's in the smallest, most mundane thing, and when you do, take note of that joy that you feel. Write it down, take a picture of the moment, do whatever you need to do so you can remember it. Because those are the moments that will help carry you through until the next time you see Him again.

"A while back, I saw a cool post on facebook that talked about certain trees and their roots. I was reminded of it recently when I went on a walk with family! I then shared it with Keegan Dickinson, and he may have mentioned it on certain occasions.

There are certain trees that grow out here that become big, strong and tall. Upon first glance, you would think these trees have deep, strong roots that go far into the earth, allowing them to become big and tall. But that isn't what happens in most cases.

Instead, they use the water and sunlight they receive to grow roots branching out to other trees' roots. Then the branches intertwine, which allow those treees to use their collective strength to keep the other standing. Eventually you end up with big patches of trees that are all tangled together, firmly rooted in the ground! And believe it or not, their roots don't normally go deeper than 5-10 feet.

I found this to be really profound and relatable! Because really, God doesn't ask us to go at life alone. Just as it says in Matthew 5:45, God sends rain and sunlight on the just and unjust. We will all experience the woes, and growing experiences of this world. But just as the trees reach out for strength and help, so should we. It's why God allows us to experience life with friends and family!

So the moral? God's gonna give us what we need to become like Him, so let's use those resources to reach out to others and find additional strength. That way, when the whirlwinds come, we can continue to stand strong, and we can ensure our friends/family are too."

"When Jesus called Peter to come to Him across the water, Peter, for one brief, glorious moment, forgot he did not know how and strode with ease across the sea. This is how we are meant to be."
- Jeffrey R. Holland
We are to forget.
Forget that we don't know everything.
Forget that we can't see everything that lies ahead.
Forget that we aren't invincible.
Forget all these things that hold us back from so much in our lives.
We are to forget these things, and just trust.
Trust that Heavenly Father knows the things we don't.
Trust that He already knows what lies ahead, that He sees it clearly.
Trust that He is invincible, and that He will make us stronger than we are.
He did it for Peter on the water.
He will do it for us.
It's just up to us to forget that we can't walk on water, and to step out and reach for Him anyways.
How are you going to take that step and reach for Him?

How do you hear Him?
Do you go somewhere alone where it’s quiet?
Do you listen for His voice in the silence?
Or feel a burning deep in your heart?
Where do you start?
How do you hear Him?
Do you climb up to the top of the mountain?
Do you read His words and try to find something,
Something that He wants you to do?
He’s speaking to you.
("Hear Him," by Nik Day)

"And he gathereth his children from the four quarters of the earth; and he numbereth his sheep, and they know him; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd; and he shall feed his sheep, and in him they shall find pasture."
- 2 Nephi 22:25
How do you find pasture in the Lord?

"Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of God...and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths..."
- Isaiah 2:3
I especially love the use of the word "us" in this verse.
It's not bragging, saying "I am going to the mountain of the Lord."
It's not calling anyone out, saying "You need to go to the house of God so He can teach you."
It's an invitation.
It's an invitation to not go alone, but together.
It's an acknowledgement that we ALL need Jesus.
Who will you bring with you to walk in His paths? Who will you join together with to walk in His paths?

"The Lord has sent you comfort--many sources of comfort and inspiration--not the least of which are witnesses in stars and stones that He lives, that He loves you, and that He has set in place a plan by which all that He has created can be yours if you will have faith and endure." - John D. Lamb
What are some "stars and stones" that have shown you that your Father in Heaven loves you and that He has a plan for you?

"And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
"And they straightway left their nets, and followed him."
- Matthew 4:19-20
These nets were their livelihoods. This is how they provided for their families, and yet the disciples were so devoted to Christ, that when He said to follow Him, they didn't even hesitate.
They didn't say "Let me go clean my nets first," or "But I haven't finished yet."
They dropped their nets.
And they followed Him.
How quick are we to drop what we're doing to follow the Savior?
What are some nets that you need to drop so you can follow Him?

"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things."
- 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Someone pointed out to me that if you replace the word "charity" with "Jesus" in these verses, it fits perfectly. "[Jesus] suffereth long; [Jesus] envieth not; [Jesus] vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up..."
Understanding charity or being charitable is not easy. But understanding Jesus and being Christlike is a little bit easier.
Who has shown you Christlike charity recently? How can you show it to others this week?
