I can't begin to express my thanks and admiration for our Cedar Bluff AL Police department. CBFUMC trailer that is designed to be used to roll - in and help in disaster areas with food was stolen. I reported it yesterday at 11:00 AM.

By 4:08 yesterday afternoon I was on my way to claim it.

Sgt Investigator Jamie Chatman and Kyle Newton, CBPD, found it the same day it was reported We have it back.

Thanks be to God for Jamie Chatman and Kyle Newton, as well as others, who helped coordinate this effort. This is amazing! Thanks be to God!

Today begins the season of Lent. This is a time of repentance and reflection, considering what amazing love this is that Jesus would die for us.

So, as other pastors are doing, I have something theological to say —

Well, actually I don’t. I have a quote that Dietrich Bonhoeffer says, who understands costly discipleship far more than I, though our theologies are both shaped by war:

[For us] “To endure the cross is not a tragedy; it is the suffering which is the fruit of an exclusive allegiance to Jesus Christ…but it is the suffering and rejection, and not rejection for any cause or conviction of our own, but rejection for the sake of Christ.”

I’m not one who believes that Lent is about offering something to Christ, but rather sacrificing ourselves in the service and love of Christ.

What’s the difference? Sacrifice costs us something, something precious.

You know, that whole cast our crowns thing…

Giving up chocolate is an offering.

What are we being called to sacrifice?

Hi Y’all! Would you mind helping us out? We’re trying to do more on our new Weiss Lake YouTube channel as well as Facebook.

It would really help us ifyou have a YouTube subscription, or if you are willing to signup for one (it’s free for the basic stuff, and suscribe to our page.

Here’s the problem: we can’t go live from a mobile device on YouTube until we have at least 50 subscribers — not views, but folks with YouTube accounts that click “subscribe.” (This does not affect Sunday livestream ad it’s done via computer. What’s the difference? I have no idea.)
