Yesterday the youth of our church led us in our worship service. They provided the music, led us in prayers, and read a heartfelt message. We recognized our graduating seniors, thanked all who helped with Sunday School and nursery this year, and enjoyed a picnic and lawn games outside. Such a wonderful day!

Mary Anderson, Assistant to the Lead Presbyter of the Presbytery of Cayuga Syracuse

The Cazenovia Church has been a cornerstone of faith and community since 1799, when early settlersโ€”living in what was then still wildernessโ€”gathered to form a congregation and install their first minister, the Rev. Joshua Leonard. Worship began in homes, schoolhouses, and even a tavern before the first Meeting House was built in 1803.

As the village grew, the church grew with it. The building was moved to its current location on the public square in 1828, expanded with a Session House in 1854, and later with the Meeting House wing (1953) and Wendell House (1965). Christian education has always been central, from the first Sunday School in 1818 to the ongoing commitment to children and families today.

Womenโ€™s leadership also blossomed over time -- from early service organizations in the 1870s to full participation on Session and the Board of Trustees by the midโ€‘1950s.

Across more than two centuries, the congregation has navigated familiar challenges -- finances, building care, and partnership with Presbytery -- while remaining a steady, faithful presence in the community.

On May 16, Cazenovia Church graciously hosted both presbyteries, offering hospitality and space for shared worship, discernment, and connection. It was a beautiful continuation of their long tradition of service and welcome.

As we look forward to the May 29th concert to commemorate the past 50 years since the installation of the C.B. Fisk organ, here are some memories shared by David C. Pike of the Fisk Organ Company, Gloucester, MA:

"I was there, on 16 May 1976, to hear Robert Noehren play the inaugural recital. I met Sally Gould, the Music Director at the time, as well as Charles Fisk and a number of his employees in attendance.
It was the first Fisk organ I ever heard, and hearing it convinced me more than ever that I wanted to be an organ builder.
I am now in my 50th year working at C. B. Fisk, Inc., in Gloucester, MA, am semi-retired, and have had a wonderful and fulfilling career at Fisk. I was the Executive Vice President and Tonal Director for 30 years beginning in 1993.
And your Fisk organ, Opus 70, had a crucial role in my career trajectory."

Fun fact: Opus 70 means that our organ is the 70th organ built by the Fisk Organ Company. The concert is co-hosted by the Syracuse Chapter of the American Organ Guild and the Worship and Music Committee and will feature guest organist Alex Little. Starting time is 7 p.m. in the sanctuary; it is free and open to the public, and it will be live streamed.
