Christ Our Advocate

Scripture: “And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” — 1 John 2:1 (LSB)

Even as Christians, we know what it is to stumble. We desire to obey God, yet we still recognize our weakness and our need for forgiveness.

The good news is that our hope does not rest upon our ability to live perfectly.

John tells us that Jesus Christ is our Advocate with the Father. Christ is righteous, and He stands as the perfect Savior for His people. Our confidence before God is not found in our own record, but in the righteousness of Christ.

At the cross, Jesus bore the penalty for sin. He did not merely overlook our guilt; He paid the price for redemption. His resurrection declares His victory, and His continued ministry assures us that our salvation rests securely in Him.

Therefore, when we stumble, we should not hide from God. We should confess our sins, turn to Him in repentance, and rest again in the mercy of Christ.

Our Savior is righteous. Our Savior saves. And our Savior is faithful to His people.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus Christ, our righteous Advocate. When we stumble, keep us from despair and lead us to repentance and faith. Help us to rest in Christ’s perfect righteousness and to walk faithfully in the grace You have given us. Amen.

Saved by Grace

Scripture: “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8 (LSB)

The word grace reminds us that salvation is God’s gift.

We do not save ourselves through our accomplishments, our goodness, or our ability to make ourselves worthy before God. Scripture directs our eyes away from ourselves and toward the gracious work of God.

Salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ. He lived the righteous life we could never live, bore the judgment of sin upon the cross, and rose again in victory. Our hope rests upon what Christ has accomplished.

This should produce both humility and gratitude in the heart of the believer. We have no reason to boast in ourselves, but every reason to boast in Christ.

The grace of God is not something we should take lightly. It should lead us to worship, obedience, and thanksgiving.

Today, remember where your salvation comes from. It is not ultimately the story of what we have done for God. It is the story of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ.

Prayer:
Gracious Father, thank You for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Keep us humble and grateful for Your grace. Help us to trust Christ completely, to walk faithfully in obedience, and to give You all the glory for the salvation You have provided. Amen.

The Lord Is My Strength

Scripture: “Yahweh is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.” — Psalm 28:7 (LSB)

There are days when we recognize just how little strength we have on our own. Responsibilities can become heavy, circumstances can become difficult, and our own limitations can become very apparent.

Yet the Christian does not have to depend upon his own strength.

The psalmist declares, “Yahweh is my strength and my shield.” God Himself is the source of strength for His people. He protects us, sustains us, and gives us grace to endure what He has called us to face.

This strength is ultimately found in Jesus Christ. Our Savior does not merely give us an example to follow; He accomplished our salvation through His perfect obedience, His death upon the cross, and His resurrection from the grave.

When we are weak, Christ remains strong. When we are uncertain, Christ remains faithful. When we cannot see the way forward, the Lord remains our refuge.

Whatever today brings, trust Him. You do not have to possess enough strength for everything that lies ahead. You need only to trust the One whose strength never fails.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being our strength and our shield. Help us to trust You rather than relying upon ourselves. When we are weak, remind us of the sufficiency of Jesus Christ and give us grace to faithfully walk through whatever You place before us. Amen.
