Devotional Challenge:
The following is a list of the Apostle Paul's letters arranged in the order that they were written:
Galatians
1 Thessalonians
2 Thessalonians
1 Corinthians
2 Corinthians
Romans
Ephesians
Philippians
Colossians
Philemon
1 Timothy
Titus
2 Timothy
Reading in the order presents a unique and revealing truth of the apostle regarding his growth.
A few examples are found in his referencing of himself....
Galatians 1:1 KJV
Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)
- He is confident, calling himself an apostle
1 Corinthians 15:9 KJV
For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
- He now refers to himself as the "least of the apostles."
- These two letters are approximately 7 years apart
Ephesians 3:8 KJV
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
- No title is used to describe himself.
- 5 years pass and he is now the least of the saints
1 Timothy 1:15 KJV
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
- He now describes himself as the chief of sinners!
Paul's estimation of himself got smaller and smaller, the more time he spent with the Lord. This would make sense considering Jesus said that He, Himself, was meek and lowly. When called good, the Lord said, "There is none good except God."
When you spend time with the Lord, your life will tell on you.
