We share with heavy but grateful hearts the news of the passing of our dear Sister Marianna Piecyk, SSMI, who went home to the Lord on April 25, 2026.
Dear Sister Marianna - thank you. Thank you for your courage, your faithfulness, and your quiet life of service. We trust you are now home. 🙏🕯️
The Sisters Servants announce that Sister Marianna Piecyk, SSMI, was called to the Lord on April 25, 2026. She was 95 years old and had been a resident of Sacred Heart Home in recent months after moving from the convent.
Born in 1930 in Gałki near Radom, Poland, Sister Marianna entered the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate in 1948 and professed her first vows in 1955, dedicating her entire life to God and to service.
Her life was one of quiet courage. As a catechist in communist Poland, she faced government interrogations and even the threat of prison — yet she never yielded. She served among the Polish community in Hereford, England, and in 1979 came to the United States, where she ministered at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Catonsville, at a preschool in Baltimore, and for many years at Sacred Heart Home, where she lovingly cared for the elderly and tended to the laundry with the same faithful dedication she brought to everything she did.
Her final weeks were spent in peace, surrounded by attentive and loving care from the dedicated staff. On Saturday, April 25, 2026, surrounded by her sisters, she passed to the Lord. We trust she entered eternal life the way she had lived her religious life — in the company of her sisters, in peace, and in the embrace of our loving God and our Blessed Mother.
There will be a viewing on Sunday, May 3 from 3:30-5:30pm at Gasch’s Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Ave;, Hyattsville. A funeral Mass is scheduled here at Sacred Heart Home on Monday, May 4 at 10am.
Sister Marianna, thank you for your hidden, faithful, and courageous life. May the Lord grant you eternal rest. 🙏
"Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her."
