There are only two kinds of people in the world--the righteous and the wicked. Interestingly, the righteous believe themselves to be wicked. That is why they need the Gospel. The wicked believe themselves to be righteous. That is why they do not need the Gospel.

The Throne of Grace
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in the time of need.” (Heb 4:16). We are bidden to come, not to a throne of law, nor a throne of strict justice, but to a throne of grace. The words, Throne, Majesty, Power, and Omnipotence all leave me awed and frightened. But the soft gentle word Grace stirs my heart to venture near in sincerity, humility, and hope. For though there are a thousand defects in my prayers, it is a throne of grace. Though many defects in my knowledge, it is a throne of grace. Though there are so many weaknesses in my spirit, it is a throne of grace. Though my faith is so weak and dishonoring to the King, it is a throne of grace. Grace loves, grace forgives, grace abounds, grace is sufficient; and His grace is greater than all my sins.

1) Christ gave Himself. He didn’t give the wealth of this world for us, He gave himself. He gave Himself, His life, his time, his reputation, and all the comforts of life. He gave Himself, He gave his life. (2) Christ gave Himself for us. That means that He gave himself as our substitute. How are the us described in Romans 5:6-8? Look at the us for whom Christ gave Himself as described in Romans 5:6-8. Christ gave Himself for those who were: without strength. We were strength-less, we had no power or ability to reconcile ourselves to God. Christ gave himself for those who were ungodly, even though created in His image, by our sin we were un-like God. Christ gave Himself for those who are were sinners. We missed the mark and came short of the glory of God. (3) Christ gave Himself for us to God. It was God who was propitiated by His sacrifice. It was God against whom we had sinned and His justice must be satisfied that He might be “A Just God, and a Savior”.

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain, Phil. 1:21.
The works gospel says that a man’s destiny in death is determined by how he lives in life. The gospel of God’s free grace in Christ says that how a man lives his life is directed by his Hope in death…Christ in you, the hope of glory.

CHRIST IS ALL
The more the Lord is pleased to teach me of who the Lord Jesus Christ is and who I am, the more I know how much I need Christ. I need Christ to be everything to me. I need Him to be my righteousness. I need Him to be my salvation. I need Him to be my wisdom. I need Him to be my sanctification. I need Him to be my helper and my keeper. I need Him to be my Shepherd. I need Him to be the sole object of faith. So, it gives me great joy to read that “Christ is all, and in all” (Gal. 3:11).

BRETHREN PRAY FOR US (I Thessalonians 5:25)
When we elders stand behind this pulpit and open the Word to preach the gospel of Christ, I can think of nothing as important as these four words - “BRETHREN, PRAY FOR US.”
When we teachers stand before our classes and endeavor to teach the Word of God, you can render no greater service or help than - “BRETHREN, PRAY FOR US.”
When our missionaries depart from these shores to face the dangers and perils of foreign lands and to preach the Gospel in a hostile environment, I’m sure that there is one common request they all would leave with us - “BRETHREN, PRAY FOR US.”
Our young couples are starting their lives together, and the responsibility of raising children is upon them - “BRETHREN, PRAY FOR US.”
Some of us are growing older; the sands of time are almost out of the upper glass. We have a faith to keep, a witness to give, our God to glorify, and a death to die - “BRETHREN, PRAY FOR US.”
What did Samuel say? “Moreover, as for me, God forbid that I
should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you” (I Sam. 12:23). Henry Mahan

Herein is Love
Hosea (Christ) will purchase Gomer (His elect bride) off the slave block. Her life of harlotry and drunkenness has left her wasted, used, battered. She is not worth but half the price of a slave. Who would want her? Who could possibly love her? Her sin has left her ravished. Her beauty is gone. Full of shame, she has nothing to offer. With her head hung, she can no longer appeal to a man with a smile. Taken home by her husband, she asked him why He would show her such mercy. One answer, one answer only. I love you. I always have loved you. I will never stop loving you. In humble gratitude, she loves him back all the days of her life.

THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL FLOURISH
The Word of God promises that the righteous shall flourish (Ps. 92:12-13). The righteous shall not flourish as the flesh flourishes. The flesh only flourishes for a day. It grows and blossoms in the morning and is cut down in the evening (Ps. 90:6). The righteous shall flourish eternally. The psalmist said “They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing” (Ps 92:14). The righteous shall not flourish outwardly. The righteous shall flourish inwardly as “the inward man is renewed day by day” (II Cor. 4:16). The righteous flourish when Christ comes to them in power (Ps. 72:7). The righteous shall flourish as they grow in grace. The righteous flourishes over the long haul by holding his way (Job 17:9) and remaining in the presence of Christ our Savior.
