Today's Proverbs - June 16, 2026!

Proverbs Chapter 17 NIV

Verse 9:
Whoever would foster love covers over an offense,
but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.

Verse 10:
A rebuke impresses a discerning person
more than a hundred lashes a fool.

Verse 11:
Evildoers foster rebellion against God;
the messenger of death will be sent against them.

Peter preaches on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Gentiles; and the command for 'inclusive' baptism!
~~~
Acts 10: 27-43 NIV
While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people.
He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.
So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”
Cornelius answered:
“Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”
Then Peter began to speak:
“I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
“We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.
He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.
All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
A Kingdom Divided!
At what point in the reading of 1st Kings today, did you realize there were 2 Kings and 2 Nations?
The Reason & the Result:
After the reign of King Solomon, his son, Rehoboam enacted a heavy tax. One could consider it 'inhumane' after reading the details presented to and accepted by King Solomon. This caused the Northern tribes to rebel against Him.
Today's scriptures follow the history of the King of Israel (Jeroboam's lineage) and the King of Judah (David's Lineage)
Every King of Israel is recorded as doing "evil in the sight of the Lord." Their defining sin was continuing to worship golden calves and promoting the worship of foreign gods like Baal.
The southern kingdom experienced a mix of rulers. Some kings were deemed incredibly wicked, while others such as Asa or Jehoshaphat, were recognized as faithful, good kings who brought religious revivals to the nation.
(However, both kingdoms faced instability, assassinations and condemnation for idolatry.)
Israel (Northern) was eventually conquered and scattered by the Assyrians, never to return as an independent nation
Judah (Southern) survived as a distinct identity for over a century longer until it was conquered by the Babylonians.
~~~

We have good news though and a promise!

According to biblical prophecy, Christ will not rule over just one of the divided kingdoms! He will be the eternal King over both.

As the promised descendant of King David (from the tribe of Judah), He ultimately inherits the throne of the reunited houses of Israel and Judah.

Isaiah 11:12 NIV
He (Christ) will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; he will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth.

And Christ won't just be gathering Israel together, but also all the scattered children of God.

John 11:51-52 NIV
He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.

Psalm 133niv

How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!

It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.

It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore.

Proverbs Chapter 17 NIV

and parents are the pride of their children.

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you:

Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought,
but rather think of yourself with sober judgment,
in accordance with the faith God has distributed
to each of you.
