Like a child soothed by a parent’s embrace, believers find refuge in God’s character, not circumstances. This isn’t denial but defiance—choosing trust when waves threaten.

Do you need to be baptized? Do you wonder what it means, what we believe about it, or when you can be baptized? This Sunday, you can get these questions answered at our Baptism Class, at 11:45 am in Classroom 1.

This class is the first step in getting baptized at Northgate, but it doesn't obligate you to baptism, if you are just looking for answers to questions. And, if you want to get baptized, we'll be doing that in our services on November 15th!

Day 3: Shalom Beyond Quiet Nights

The Hebrew “shalom” means more than ceasefire—it’s wholeness, like a fractured bone knit strong or a storm-tossed soul steadied. The peace offering restored this inner completeness through Christ, who was “beaten so we could be whole” (Isaiah 53:5). Just as the priest received the breast meat, God nourishes His people with His presence, healing what chaos fractures.

Day 2: Feasting in No Man’s Land

On Christmas Eve in 1914, enemies became brothers over shared rations in World War I’s trenches, mirroring the peace offering’s purpose: reconciliation through a meal.

The Israelites celebrated answered prayers, fulfilled vows, or simple gratitude by eating fat-marbled meat with family, servants, and priests before God’s presence. This wasn’t a somber ritual but a joyful feast—a foretaste of heaven’s unity. God’s table transforms strangers into family.

In Sunday's sermon, we saw that Jesus is the peace offering who brings us wholeness and healing. We live in a world that wounds and causes suffering, but we worship a God who can help bring us the internal peace we need.

Day 1: The Lamb’s Fire and God’s Welcoming Presence

The sacrificial system wasn’t about appeasing an angry God but restoring broken fellowship. Ancient Israelites brought unblemished lambs, burning every part on the altar as smoke rose heavenward—a tangible sign of total surrender. This act opened the way to stand before a holy God, not through merit but through grace.

Like the fatty portions given wholly to God, He desires our best, not leftovers. True worship begins when we recognize His worthiness to receive all of us.

3 “If the animal you present as a burnt offering is from the herd, it must be a male with no defects. Bring it to the entrance of the Tabernacle so you may be accepted by the Lord. 4 Lay your hand on the animal’s head, and the Lord will accept its death in your place to purify you, making you right with him.”

Last night our THRIVE young adults and Northgate Youth students joined together for a time of worship and praise at the Patterson's home. Even though rain prevented us from staying outside around the fire, we had an inspiring and uplifting time of song, scripture, and prayer.

THRIVE Young Adults meets on Fridays at 7 PM at Northgate each week, and Northgate Youth meets on Sundays at 5:30 PM for High School and Tuesdays at 6 PM for Middle School. Reach out to Pastor Houston or Pastor Mike to learn more.

Day 5: No Yeast, No Honey, No Pretense

God banned yeast and honey – no puffing up, no sugarcoating. The flatbread offering was reality baked bare: “This is me, unglamorous but authentic.” God prefers awkward truth over impressive lies. Sin puffs us up like yeast; flattery sweetens what should be repented. True worship comes unleavened – no hidden agendas, just the plain flour of “I need You” offered daily.

“6 Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough? 7 Get rid of the old “yeast” by removing this wicked person from among you.” (1 Corinthians 5:6–7a, NLT)

Reflection: Where have you been “sweetening” your faith to impress others? What “yeast” of pride or pretense needs scrubbing from your heart today?
