Olivet Baptist Church

Olivet Baptist Church We exist to help you follow Jesus. Glorify God means we exalt Christ by the way that we live and by what we do.

Olivet Baptist exists to to glorify God as fully devoted followers of Jesus who equip others to do the same so that the gospel may reach the world. In Eph. 1:11-12, Paul says, “In Christ we were also chosen… in order that we… might be for the praise of His glory.”

Fully devoted follower of Jesus means we view Christ not just as Savior but also Lord. The Bible is our authority, conscience, and gu

ide in all things. We walk in obedience to God’s Word by knowing and obeying the commands that He has clearly laid out in Scripture not because they save us but because we love Him, and love always leads to action. Equip others means the church is the training ground for believers. Eph. 4:12-13 says that the church is to “equip the saints for the work of the ministry and to build up the body of Christ, until we reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ.” God designed believers to do life with one another, to encourage and build one another up, to admonish and edify one another, to equip and train each other. We need each other; let us not forsake meeting together (Hebrews 10:25). Advance the gospel to the world means we seek to put Christ on display to every nation and preach the good news of Christ to people in every place. Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, He commissioned His disciples, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you.” (Matt. 28:19-20) Advancing the gospel to the world is engaging the lost and sharing with them who Christ is and what He has done for them

Day 3: The Proclamation of the Gospel
Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Romans 10:9-10

Devotional: The gospel proclaims historical facts: Christ died for our sins, was buried, rose on the third day, and appeared to over 500 witnesses. This isn't blind faith—it's evidence-based truth. Jesus didn't just die; He died for your sins. It's personal. His burial confirms His death was real. His resurrection is God's exclamation point proving Jesus is the Messiah. Every other religious leader remains in their tomb; Jesus' tomb is empty. This gospel message demands a response. Is Jesus the Savior, or is He your Savior? The resurrection is your receipt—proof that the payment for sin was accepted. Let this historical reality anchor your faith today.

Reflection: Do I truly believe the resurrection happened, and does that belief change how I live?

Day 2: Standing in the Gospel
Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:1-2; Colossians 2:6-7

Devotional: Receiving the gospel is a past event; standing in it is a present reality. Paul addresses believers, reminding them to remain rooted in gospel truth. When we stand firm in the gospel, sin loses its attractiveness, guilt finds no foothold, pride disappears, and division loses power. Are you standing in the gospel today, or have comfort, busyness, or worldly pursuits pulled you away? Standing firm means daily meditation on what Christ accomplished—letting that truth reshape your priorities, relationships, and responses. The gospel isn't just your entry point into Christianity; it's the foundation you build your entire life upon. Return to it daily with fresh wonder and gratitude.

Reflection: What areas of my life reveal I'm not currently standing firm in gospel truth

Day 1: Receiving the Gospel
Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:1-2; Ephesians 2:8-9

Devotional: The gospel isn't merely a prayer we prayed or an experience we had—it's a complete trust transfer. Many claim Christianity based on childhood memories or emotional moments, yet never truly placed their trust in Christ's finished work. Salvation isn't about being "sorry enough" or saying the right words; it's about recognizing you were spiritually dead and accepting that only Jesus' sacrifice can make you alive. Today, examine where your confidence truly lies. Is it in a past event, or in the ongoing reality of Christ's substitutionary death for your sins? Receiving the gospel means taking your hands completely off your own righteousness and resting entirely in His.

Reflection: Have I truly received the gospel, or am I trusting in an experience rather than in Christ alone?

Day 5: You Are the Light
Reading: Matthew 5:14-16; Philippians 2:14-16

Devotional: Jesus declared that you are the light of the world—not that you should try to become light, but that you already are. As you step out of the safety of Christian gatherings into the darkness around you, remember your identity. You are a temple where the Holy Spirit dwells. You carry the presence of God wherever you go.

The world is confused, hurting, and searching. They need what you have—not religious performance, but authentic relationship with the living God. Don't be afraid. Open your mouth. The Spirit will give you words. Your life should be marked by peace that doesn't make sense, love that isn't earned, and hope that can't be
extinguished. This isn't about perfection; it's about pointing to the Perfect One.

You will face dark days, confusing seasons, and difficult circumstances. In those moments, your light shines brightest. Be bold. Be available. Be who God says you already are. The reputation of Christ's church depends on His people living out their calling in the everyday, ordinary moments of life.

Day 4: Order, Peace, and Submission
Reading: 1 Corinthians 14:26-40; Hebrews 13:17

Devotional: God's character is reflected in order, not chaos. When the church gathers,
everything should be done "decently and in order" for the edification of all. This requires submission—to God's Word, to spiritual leadership, and to one another in love. Submission isn't a popular concept today, but it's biblical and beautiful when rightly understood. God has established order in the home and in the church, not to suppress but to protect and empower.

Men, you bear the weighty responsibility of spiritual leadership. This should drive you to your knees daily, seeking God's wisdom and strength. The church functions best when each member understands their role and serves with humility. When you gather with believers, come prepared to participate, contribute, and receive. But do so in a way that maintains peace and builds up the body. Chaos doesn't reflect God's presence; peace does. Submit to His design and watch His blessing flow.

Day 3: Speaking Life and Truth
Reading: 1 Corinthians 14:1-12; Ephesians 4:29

Devotional: God has gifted His church with the ability to speak truth that builds up, encourages, and strengthens others. Whether through prophecy, teaching, or simple conversation, our words carry power. Paul emphasizes that all spiritual communication must be understandable and edifying. What good is speaking if no one comprehends or benefits? In our gatherings and daily interactions, clarity matters. God is not the author of confusion but of peace.

When the Holy Spirit enables you to speak, your words should align with Scripture and ultimately serve the good of others. This week, examine your speech. Are you speaking to draw attention to yourself or to build others up? Are your words filtered through God's truth? The Spirit may prompt you with encouragement for someone struggling, wisdom for someone confused, or truth for someone deceived. Be available. Listen carefully. Speak clearly. Let your words be vehicles of grace that leave people stronger than before.

Do our gatherings truly reflect God's character and build up the Church?

This Sunday we wrapped up 1 Corinthians 14, diving deep into how spiritual gifts like prophecy and tongues should function in the church. The bottom line? It's not about emotional experiences or showing off spirituality—it's about edification. Paul makes it crystal clear: "Let all things be done for edification." God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.

Here's the challenge: When we gather, are we prioritizing love and understanding? Are we making sure everyone can participate and grow? Whether it's prophecy, teaching, or any spiritual gift, the goal remains the same—glorifying God, building up the body, and reaching the lost. As Jesus said, you are the light of the world. This week, go be who God says you already are. Be bold. Open your mouth. The Spirit will protect you
