Gratitude for our freedoms should deepen our love for others, our humility, and our commitment to protect the rights of everyone, not just those who believe as we do. In a free country, people have the liberty to express their love for their heritage, their culture, and their beliefs. We can proudly fly the American flag while respecting those who also display the flags of the countries they came from. Immigrants and people from every nation and culture enrich our communities, and they are welcome. I'm grateful the restored gospel calls us to be disciples of Jesus Christ first and to be peacemakers in a world that often invites us to choose sides.

The 190-year-old scripture behind the Church’s worldwide fast for religious freedom: Doctrine and Covenants 134 claims governments have no right to make laws that "bind the consciences of men."

This Sunday, as we celebrate Independence Day weekend, let's unite in fasting and prayer with grateful hearts for the blessing of religious liberty. May we defend the right of every person to worship, believe, or not believe according to conscience.

The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square returned to the Hollywood Bowl 100 years after their historic debut for an inspiring "Songs of Hope" benefit concert. A beautiful evening of music, faith, and service—with all ticket proceeds supporting women and children around the world. ❤️🎶

Many people know The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square for its beautiful music. What some may not realize is that this week's "Songs of Hope" concert at the Hollywood Bowl is also a benefit for women and children around the world.

Proceeds from the concert will support organizations working to improve health, education, and opportunity for women and children in need, and the Church will match the funds raised.

Music can inspire hearts, but it can also bless lives. We are grateful for this opportunity to combine both.

Under new Department of War guidance, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is reportedly categorized separately from groups listed as Christian.

Whatever theological disagreements others may have, a faith centered on JESUS CHRIST, His teachings, His atoning sacrifice, and His resurrection should not have its Christian identity defined by politicians or bureaucrats.

Political movements come and go. Discipleship of Jesus Christ endures.

Defense Secretary Hegseth previously announced the change due to an "impractical" system.

Today our Castro Valley 1st Ward held a special 5th Sunday discussion led by Brother Adam Brown centered on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

One thing I appreciated was that the discussion stayed focused on principles rather than politics. The video discussion featuring President D. Todd Christofferson and Elder Quentin L. Cook emphasized moral agency, religious liberty, the rule of law, civic responsibility, and the importance of seeking unity and mutual respect even when we disagree. They also reminded us that the Constitution was not perfect when it was written, but has been strengthened over time through amendments that abolished slavery and expanded voting rights.

A quote that stood out was President Oaks' invitation to "seek to moderate and unify" on contested issues and to focus on the principles that transcend political parties.

If you haven't watched the video yet, we would encourage you to do so. Whether you agree with every point or not, it provides a thoughtful discussion about faith, freedom, citizenship, and the role of moral character in sustaining a free society.
