Mitty of the San Francisco Diocese established Our Lady of Grace Parish in Castro Valley on September 19,1947 with Rev. It was the first of many parishes to stem from All Saints Church in Hayward. A small hall on Baker Road, belonging to a San Francisco Italian group, was used for Mass during the first six months. In 1947 three acres bordering on Anita Avenue were purchased for $11,000.00. The fir

st church and rectory were built on that site. The first Mass was celebrated on Easter Sunday in 1948.
