A note from the Director's Office:

I wanted to let the whole UniStar community know that, unfortunately, I cannot return as the Director for the 2026 summer. My life is headed in new and exciting directions and while I would love to return to UniStar and surround myself with community and nature, it is no longer feasible. Having spent the last 10 or so years staffing UniStar, this was no easy decision. I know I will still have a place within the UniStar community and hope to see you all soon once we return to Star Island.

Until we meet again- Truman Rice

Youth Week Registration

Many of you have been reaching out with questions about the status of 2021 Youth Weeks. The UniStar Management Committee has been hard at work gathering information from other youth and family camps that provided programming last season, as well as those that are planning for the upcoming season, all while taking into account the unique, close-knit community that is specific to Youth Week at UniStar. The Camp UniStar Foundation Board and Management Committee have decided that we will be unable to safely host Youth Weeks this summer.

Bringing together youth from all over the country has its own inherent risks; add to that the communal nature of Camp, as well as the community activities that make Youth Week special, and unfortunately, the essence of Youth Week ends up severely impeding our ability to provide a safe environment for the campers as well as our Youth Week volunteers and the Camp UniStar Staff.

There is no easy way to swallow the reality of two summers without Youth Week, and we want to acknowledge that this simply sucks. If you would like to pursue “virtual” YW community gatherings, similar to what was accomplished in 2020, please reach out to your Youth Week leaders. We truly hope to be able to provide a safe and happy return to Youth Week programming again soon.

With a heavy heart we share that Camp UniStar will be suspending its 2020 summer season. Although we wish that stargazing on the dock, an engaging week of UU programming, and a spirited volleyball game between staff and campers was in our future, the risk posed by the COVID-19 global pandemic is too great to our staff, camper community and surrounding Cass Lake community to operate camp this summer. This decision is born of our UU values and of our camp mission, vision and values to protect our community, honor our relationships and to strengthen camp as a whole.

Although camp may be physically closed this year, its spirit remains open and present in each camper and family. Thank you, for answering the call of the conch this summer and we look forward to the days when we can welcome you, with open arms, back on the Island.

As we regroup during this unexpected turn of events, we will be reaching out to our camper community to determine what interest and in what form you would like to engage with camp virtually. Please keep your eyes peeled for more details as we explore these new ways to stay connected in a physically distant world. Happy Trails to all of you in this new world, until we meet again.

Dear UniStar community:
The Camp UniStar Foundation leadership (Board and Management Committee) are monitoring the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation. We will adhere to all health and safety recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Minnesota Department of Health as well as the American Camp Association. As these recommendations evolve, we are actively evaluating and planning for summer 2020. Our first priority is campers' safety and well-being.

We know there is an atmosphere of uncertainty as campers wonder if they should change their plans. Currently, we are planning for a full season on the island. If this should change, we will notify our camp community by email and on our page, as well as our website. We want to assure you that if Camp UniStar weeks change or are cancelled, campers will receive refunds of their payments to date.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we seek the best solutions amidst an ever-evolving situation.

Out of love and concern for our camper community and the desire to be cautious about the current spread of the Covid19, the decision has been made to postpone the camper ReUUnion, and subsequent Youth Week question and answer session with counselors, until further notice. Stay tuned for updates as we all learn more about how and when to be in community with each other again.
