THE BLESSING OF THANK YOU....by Dante Antonucci

Someone once said, “A true attitude of thankfulness is one that appreciates even the small things that others do for us. Without that sense of appreciation and gratitude for small things, we risk being unthankful for big things.”

Conversely, and far too often, it requires a word or action of magnitude to get our spirit of appreciation to “kick in”. Let us learn by God’s grace to be thankful not only for what is magnanimous but also for what is simple and easily overlooked!

Jesus said and confirmed that both the first and second Greatest Commandments call us to love God and our neighbor. The second commandment joins the first by the phrase, “is like it,” meaning it comes from the same heart of devotion! Regarding this foundational principle, as we would thank God for His intentional goodness to us, let us also thank our fellow humans for their intentional kindness.

For some, the phrase “Thank you” is absent from their vocabulary and thoughts. Let this not be true of us, as Christians, who have so much to be grateful for; let us be always cognizant that the same God who provides, protects, encourages, and made provision for our redemption through Christ’s atonement is also the same One Who orchestrates others being on our same life’s journey or intersecting our path to make our experience sweeter and richer.

When someone has lightly or supremely blessed us with an act of kindness, let us bless them back with an abundance of gratitude. Genuinely reciprocating statements such as “Thank you kindly for your time and support,” “Please accept my sincerest gratitude,” “I couldn’t have done it without you!” “I am forever grateful for your help.” And “I greatly appreciate you; you don’t know what this means to me” holds a place of endearment in the heart of the one who received the appreciation.

Lastly, let us reflect a moment upon Prov. 15:23, “A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” This attitude of gratitude is cause for unlimited joy. It not only blesses the recipient, but it also blesses us who extend it with sincerity.

And because God has richly blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places (Eph. 1:3), let the riches of His grace shape our attitude and actions to be the channel of blessing to others and brighten their day with sincere words of gratitude and kindness!

As the songwriter of old said, Make me a channel of blessing!

LET US ACT UPON PROFOUND COUNSELING....by Dante Antonucci

I listened to a conversation between a wayward Christian and another Christian who has been walking with the Lord for many years, in which the wayward Christian said, "I have come to you for some counseling because I see a consistency in your life." The person continued by saying, I had been living in sin for a long period of time, and God revealed to me that my drunkenness and immoral life needed to stop. He knocked on my heart’s door, calling me back to fellowship, and I responded in repentance to live for Him again. However, I have recently learned that I have cancer. And I want to know whether this is because of my past sins, a process of life, the devil attacking me, or some other reason. I am really scared, and I want to honor the Lord through dealing with this cancer.

The counselor began with a very important question to determine whether the person had confidence that they had, in the past, believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. Why? Because it made a difference in how he counseled this repentant fellow Christian. With great confidence, the person confirmed they had.

He then proceeded to begin with a profound statement: “I do not specifically know why you have cancer, nobody knows, but I can give you some thoughts to reflect upon to help you through this illness and how to honor the Lord.” He continued to Rom. 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” He also gave to this repentant Christian 1 Pt. 5:7, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” These two verses are extremely precious to the Christian in their time of great need. What a blessed thought it is to know the truth of Ps. 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

During the conversation, the person voiced that they wanted to demonstrate the right kind of Christian example, but a deep concern existed - their 2 daughters and mother would be crushed if death were the result. The person did not want them to turn their back on God. The person also voiced, “In the doctor’s office, I just fall apart!”

The Christian counselor encouraged the person through this process to continue asking God this prayerful question: “What would You have me to learn, and how would You have me to serve You?” The counsellor repeated it for emphasis—God, what would You have me to learn, and how would You have me to serve You?”—and again, applying it to their situation: “What would You have me to learn, and how would You have me to serve You… with this illness and whatever means of treatment would be administered.” The counselor encouraged the person to speak to their family in a caring and encouraging way, to not depart from the Lord if… And the counsellor encouraged the person to find and attend a good church for their benefit of serving God by ministering to others.
There are several great truths we can take from his counseling. But the one truth that should be front and center is the last series of questions, no matter what we experience in life – “God, what would You have me to learn and how would You have me to serve You?” While living to the praise of God’s glory, let it be our mantra to ask this question, “God, what would You have me to learn and how would You have me to serve You?...”

May God mature us through life’s journey to say with Paul, “For to me to live is Christ,” and to say with John the Baptist, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

VERIFY IT FIRST....by Dante Antonucci
How many times have you heard a person say, "You believe…?” Only to hear the other person say, "I (or we) do not believe that.”

One of life’s great lessons is the importance of verifying first what we say is accurate. This is especially true when expressing other people’s beliefs. Over the years, I have heard men make blanket statements about what they think others believe, only to know that what they said was untrue or not entirely true. It may not be true for several reasons. Whatever the reason, it is incumbent upon us to search for and confirm before affirming it.
Proverbs 23:23 counsels us to “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.” Truth must be our pursuit. All else is a fabrication rooted in ignorance or a blatant lie. For our consideration, we must be cognizant that what was once true may no longer be true or may have been altered to some degree. When speaking of people’s belief systems, we are wise to delineate what was once said and what is now said. Making a blanket statement without distinction will discredit the speaker. It may also cause unnecessary offence.

Solomon warns us in Proverbs. 18:13, “He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.” And Jesus emphasized to his disciples in Luke 17:1, “…It is impossible, but that offences will come…” – translation – people will be offensive! But let it not be of us!

Though all men bear the responsibility to say only what is true, Christians especially must retain their integrity so as not to discredit themselves or their Lord. Paul charged the believers of Thessalonica to “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” To ‘prove’ means to test, examine, or scrutinize a teaching or ideology for factualness and truthfulness. If it is not, it must be rejected; and if it is true, it must be embraced.

Let the words of Solomon in Prov. 14:15 resonate with us – “The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.” Let every person do well to verify what is true; NOT ‘your truth’ or ‘my truth,’ but THE truth! Christians, especially, must be diligent to verify statements and beliefs so that they neither compromise their integrity nor dishonor their Lord.

But chiefly, let the preacher and teacher of God’s Word, with all their influence and responsibility, take utmost care to NOT misstate, caricature, or construct strawmen of what people believe. Above all, let us generally heed the statement of Zech. 8:16, “…Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour….” And in the church congregation, let us commit to guarding the sentiment of Eph. 4:25 - “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.”

And let us lastly remember the sobering words of Lord and Savior in Matthew 12:36-37—“For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”

GREAT MOTHERS....by Dante Antonucci

Have you ever asked, “What makes a great mother?” The Bible has much to say about motherhood. The Bible provides much guidance and instruction for a woman to be a Great Mother. Her character and conduct of holiness, caring for her home, companionship unto her husband, and cultivating her young are all qualities that evidence the greatness God works in her for her to display from Him and for Him.

Women who are Great Mothers possess a character and conduct of holiness. This character begins with a reverence and relationship with and for God. Mary exclaimed in Lk. 1:46-47—“My soul doth magnify the Lord, My spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.” The One Who was first and foundational in her life was the Lord, her God, and her Savior. Great Mothers magnify God. They rejoice in God their Savior. She rejoices in the One Who planned and provided for the payment for her salvation to grant her forgiveness of sin and everlasting life!
Women who are Great Mothers care for those in their home. It is not just a place to live, but a place to retreat in peace and comfort. According to Proverbs 31, Great Mothers ensure their families are clothed and fed. They are industrious rather than lazy. They speak wisdom instead of foolishness. Prov. 31:26 says, “in her tongue is the law of kindness.” And because her words are governed by kindness, those in her home are not driven from her but drawn to her!

Women who are Great Mothers, who are married, are devoted companions to their husbands. Prov. 31:11-12 affirms, “The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her… She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.” Her companionship to him is due to her fellowship with the Lord. Eph. 5:22 establishes, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, AS UNTO THE LORD.”

Woman who are Great Mothers cultivate their young. Because mothers are a channel of God’s message to their children, Scripture repeatedly confirms sons should “forsake not the law of thy mother:” Great Mothers prepare their children to be responsible for real moral issues, Prov. 31:1 begins, “The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.” Great Mothers establish and assert, “Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings….it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: 5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted” (31:3-5).

At the conclusion, we find this kind of woman and Great Mother has a compliment bestowed upon her in the form of a question and statement, “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” (31:10). And the praise of her continues in 31:29-30, “Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”

To the mothers, what more can you pursue to be a Great(er) Mother?! And to their husbands, what more can you do to assist them to be the kind of mother God would have them to be?! And to her children, what more can you do to honor and encourage her endeavor?!

MY WILL BE DONE?....by Dante Antonucci

How often is it that humanity does what they want rather than obeying their Maker to do what He has decreed! It reveals humanity's ideology, “Not God’s will, but MY will be done!” God declares His directive, but we choose our own path. The Bible makes it utterly clear that humanity, represented in the person of Adam, made a willful choice to disobey God’s clear commandment… and so his children and grandchildren, and thus nearly all their descendants were destroyed by God's purposed justice by a worldwide catastrophic flood. Later, we see God’s chosen nation, Israel, refused to obey Him, even though He demonstrated mercy repeatedly by withholding justice from them and protecting them through his preventative grace.

This pattern appears vividly embodied in Ezekiel 20, where God orders Ezekiel to confront the “elders of Israel” because of their and their children’s perpetual abominations to apostatize from God by refusing to worship Him, worshipping other deities, and discarding and forsaking God’s proclamations - to observe and obey His statutes and sabbaths (days and festivals of worship). Is this not the pattern of humanity throughout the ages? God says honor me by being present to worship me - on my day - in My place - as I have designated. But humanity answers, “I will do it on my terms: I will not worship You - will not do it on your day - nor will I be in your place - to reverence You alone!”

To Israel, God said in Ezek. 20:19-21a—"I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; 20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God. 21 Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths:”

Today, God says in Heb. 10:25:22-25—"Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith... Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering… And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: NOT FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLING OF OURSELVES TOGETHER, AS THE MANNER OF SOME IS; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Though God directs the above passage to modern-day true Christians, who are often obedient to God, some still neglect, not valuing God’s provision of salvation or preventative grace. And yet others, who are unbelievers, hear the proclamation and apostatize by disobeying God’s mandates to repent and believe the Gospel. Thus, they will not worship, obey, be faithful, and testify of God's mercy and goodness to them.

The question for our conscience is this: though Israel and an unbelieving world apostatize in doctrine and duty, are we faithful to declare and demonstrate God’s decrees? If not, why? And what will we change so that we do?

THE RIGHT PASTORAL LEADERSHIP....by Dante Antonucci

Great leadership is required to lead people to accomplish great actions. And great pastoral leadership is required to guide God’s people to holy devotion and dependence upon Him. When leadership performs the opposite, family, government, education, and business fail. And when men, who claim to be God’s pastor or prophet, direct people in a contrary direction or are passive to the people’s sinful behavior… evil and wickedness are the result, and divine justice is the consequence.

Jeremiah 23:1-2, 11-12 declares God’s disdain upon apostate, presumptive, deceptive, and treacherous leaders:
“Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD. 2 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD…. 11 For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD. 12 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil [judicious consequence] upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.”

The pastor’s call is to guard, warn, protect, strengthen, teach, exhort, admonish, watch, rescue, gather, serve, comfort, and lead God’s people unto Him. The prophet (forth teller of truth) shares similar responsibilities to watch, warn, rebuke, admonish, exhort, instruct, etc. Both leaders are to represent God faithfully and reveal and reaffirm God’s directives and instructions without distortion.

But Jeremiah 23 clearly indicates these men poisoned or destroyed His people with deviant and sacrilegious teaching, scattered them with their immoral example, and neglected to care for them or bring them back unto God’s way with a caring disposition. They behaved profanely and wickedly, delivered an opposing set of standards and decrees that led the people into idolatry and immorality. And then they reconfirmed that no divine justice would come to them.

The practical side of reading such a portion of God’s Word is to reflectively seek God’s heart and ask Him to search our hearts for any ungodly, unrighteous, deviant, independent, undevoted belief or behavior. And then we should also petition God to strengthen us to come back to Him in repentance and fellowship, to again join regularly to his assembly or find one that honors God.
And for the PASTOR, let us also seek God’s face to reveal our sinful or neglectful behavior. Let us personify and proclaim every directive of God as our own personal testimony. And let us edify God’s flock to practice servant-minded devotion and dependence upon God, for God, and unto God!

DO YOUR PRAYERS EXPRESS DEVOTION AND DEPENDENCE?....by Dante Antonucci

If I were to ask you, “What is prayer?” Many would say, “It is asking God for something.” But prayer is much more than this. It expresses both a DEVOTION to God and a DEPENDENCE upon God for Who He is and what He can do.

Jesus exemplified both DEVOTION toward and DEPENDENCE upon the Father. The temptations of Jesus help us to see this holy pattern. When the Devil came to Jesus, beguiling him into turning the stones into bread, Jesus answered, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” This statement is a declaration of Jesus’ DEPENDENCE upon the Father. And when the Devil tempted Jesus, for the purpose of inducing Him to jump from the pinnacle of the temple to presume upon the Father’s care, Jesus countered the Devil’s purpose by declaring “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” This statement is a declaration of Jesus’ DEVOTION to NOT presume upon the Father.

Jesus exemplified prayer. And He also expounded the truths of how His followers were to pray in the “Lord’s prayer” or the model prayer. In the opening, He directs them to understand that prayer is to be directed to the Father and to reverence His name in our petition - “Hallowed be thy name.” This DEVOTION continues in prayerful submission for God to complete His will and ends in recognizing the Father’s sovereignty – “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory…” Sandwiched between are statements of DEPENDENCE upon God for daily sustenance, forgiveness of our sins, and deliverance from harm. We must see the great need we have – we are DEPENDENT upon God. This world may ignorantly be passive or deny this to be true, but it does not change the reality – humanity came into existence by God’s power. And we continue our existence by God’s power!

Let us gain wisdom to live life to the fullest from Solomon, who reinforced the direction of our DEVOTION and DEPENDENCE in Proverbs. 3:5-6, “TRUST in the LORD with all thine heart; and LEAN not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways ACKNOWLEDGE him, and he shall direct thy paths.” “LORD” and “ACKNOWLEDGE” = DEVOTION. And “TRUST” and “LEAN” = DEPENDENCE. Exhibiting DEPENDENCE means we trust and lean upon God. And this DEVOTION is demonstrated by our trusting and leaning toward the LORD and our acknowledging of Him. Let us conclude – we may only live life to the fullest by possessing, portraying, and proclaiming this form of wisdom. Everything else falls short.

May we perceive the underlying fundamentals of prayer are DEVOTION and DEPENDENCE. Otherwise, it may just be vain repetition.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SPACE EXPLORATION....by Dante Antonucci

I still remember the 1969 moon landing. This past week’s Artemis program brought back memories of when I was 4 years old, watching it on TV. While the mission this week was not a planned moon walk, the crew was sent on an exploration mission to study the lunar surface, ice at its South Pole, and explore the moon’s history. The primary goals were to establish a steppingstone to prepare for the first crewed missions to Mars and to ALSO “better understand the evolution of the Earth and the solar system.”

As much as I have appreciated the sending of satellites into space to study our universe—to understand our creation better and, more importantly, our Creator’s hand of design, both in similarity and uniqueness, due to His omniscience and omnipotence—most scientists are purposed to prove evolution through these missions. The aim of many is to find biological life and declare it as evidence that there is no God, no Creator, and that all happened by chance.

Let logic, empirical evidence, and the Scriptures be clear to us: Our world and beyond do not exist because of chance. God is the Creator of our universe, the multiple galaxies, and the stars within and beyond. Also, if space agencies discover biological life on other planets than Earth, it does not mean evolution is true. It only means that God created biological life on other planets. How foolish it is to conclude that the existence of space and matter is due to an accident rather than by an intelligent Designer. Every innovation and invention we know (from a megaphone to a cell phone, a wheelbarrow to a rocket, a straw to a vacuum, etc.) is due to some level of intelligent design. Complex design is evidence of a logical Designer. All other conclusions are fiction and a fabrication of the mind. What is true is what Nehemiah articulated, “Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee” (9:6).

While one of the unneeded objectives of these mission explorations is to live somewhere else other than planet Earth due to atmospheric change or a “just in case” event, it also includes a denial of God’s existence and Him as the Creator and Sustainer.

What this world currently needs is not another place to live, but to reverence the Creator Who made it of His grand design and sustains it by His Almighty power! What this world needs is not false affirmations to deny God’s existence, but a reality check to affirm His presence! What this world needs is not re-explanations of our existence, but to embrace the truth of a Creator, which every culture held before the last 100 years. What this world needs is to come to its senses and stop believing the fantasy of dreamers and liars from years ago, along with those who continue to perpetuate their illusions. What this world needs is to stop playing make-believe and re-enter the reality that they are accountable to a sovereign Creator.

Let us hear the conclusion of this whole matter: "For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited [in 6 24hr days]: I am the LORD; and there is none else” (Is. 45:18). O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker (Ps. 95:6).

WHEN I EXHIBITED THE WORST, GOD EXTENDED MERCY AND GRACE....by Dante Antonucci

Have you noticed – or, I should ask, how much you have noticed – the mixture of biblical theology and humanism mongrelized together - that is, truth and error joined into one thought and declared as truth? Let me first illustrate and then define.

To illustrate - Marvin Sapp wrote the lyrics, “He saw the best in me when everyone else around could only see the worst in me.” The truth is, “when everyone else around could only see the worst in me, God saw the worser yet in me!”

To define - Biblical theology exalts God, depicts the accuracy of His character, and declares the guilt, depravity, and condemnation of God upon humanity. It also affirms God’s revelation for humanity to repent of their sinful or self-righteous mindset and activity and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior to sufficiently save them from this condition (guilt, sinfulness, and condemnation). Humanism gives a nod to God’s presence, the hope men can have because of Him, but then either exalts humanity because of his spiritual feats (which really are not) or believes that God sees a goodness in man that concludes he is not that bad, or that God looks beyond to see that man has potential to be something better - according to man’s determination or some other human achievement. And because of this, the artist or orator falsely confirms that a person belongs to God and God belongs to him, though a person has never repented of their transgression(s). Note: Humanism is straight from the Devil’s playbook!

As much as we should take enjoyment in encouraging and lifting people from their discouragement or depression, we should also see it as our duty to awaken them to the “honest truth”. We cannot police everything people say, but people do need to see others' erroneous thinking or their own - that humanity spiritually and morally before God is not good. Solomon wrote, “Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions” (Ecc. 7:29), and the Psalmist wrote under the inspiration of the Almighty omniscient God in Ps. 39:5, “…verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.” Do you see what the Scripture is stating so clearly? Man, in his best condition, is empty. He is not good, but HE IS VOID OF GOODNESS BEFORE GOD. And Jesus clearly affirmed, “THERE IS NONE GOOD BUT ONE, THAT IS, GOD.”

So, what is the truth about people seeing the worst in us and even giving up on us, but God seeing the best in us? And can man have goodness in him?

While people may give up on us, God may extend His mercy and grace. It is not because we are good, but because He is good. He reaches out not because we are good, but because we are guilty, not because we are virtuous or kind, but because we are vain, sinful, and stubborn. It is not because of our best, but because of our worst.

God exhibiting His mercy by withholding the punishment we deserve and exerting His grace to bring us to repentance and saving faith are His loving actions to work good in us. And after He has lovingly brought us to repentance and to receive the Gospel through saving faith, there is more than goodness we may exhibit – it is the righteousness of Christ!

Now, as we walk by faith to please God, goodness exists. In our new state, if the “old man” resurfaces and our “worst” shows up again, we must then humble ourselves to draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to us. It is not about our best, but because of God’s goodness first - and our humility to come to God in repentance and sanctifying faith! May God help us to put on His best...Selah.

THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM ACCOUNTABILITY....by Dante Antonucci

Accountability for our past sins is often a terrible task master. This past week, California renamed Cesar Chavez Day to United Farmworkers Day for the March 31st holiday. This renaming was due to his reported allegations of sexual abuse against girls in the 1960s and 70s. California lawmakers moved immediately to remove his name from public places, acting to remove his legacy. Our secrets often have a way of being exposed; maybe not immediately, but eventually. Num. 32:23 reminds us, “…behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.” We may think we can conceal our sins, but eventually they will be exposed, God will hold men accountable, or both. The call of humanity to integrity and moral uprightness are virtues that all must perform. If not, the consequences can be dire.

Psalm 2 reminds us (and all of humanity) of our accountability to Jesus Christ. A preacher of long ago echoed "Payday Some Day!" It matters not that a person is a pauper or a potentate: all will answer for their culpability. And yet, Isaiah also reminds us, “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Is. 45:2). Our Psalm passage articulates, “Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him” (2:10-12).

What does this mean? Either bow yourself in humility before the Son of God and seek His forgiveness, or exercise faith to live rightly before Him and receive His blessing. Those who are determined to hide their iniquity as though it never happened will find that they will not escape their reckoning before God the Son. Jesus will open the books to condemn the ungodly man for his sinful condition and sentence him to an eternity in the Lake of Fire. And the Christian will lose their reward for their impenitent heart condition.

But what a glory it is to “Kiss the Son” (to be wise to bow in humility, repentance, and faith) and know His forgiveness and everlasting life! As we journey through life, let us shun evil, walk uprightly, and leave a legacy that testifies to our walk with God. And let us remember - remaining an Esau, who found no place of repentance, is to perish from the way, but to be an Enoch, who walked by faith with God, is to be ushered into God's presence to receive His blessing and commendation!
