Cornerstone Baptist Church

Cornerstone Baptist Church We believe that though man was created to glorify God he chose instead to sin against God by seeking to glorify himself.

We believe that man's sin places him under the wrath of God, and his sin has so corrupted every aspect of his nature such that he is completely unable to redeem himself from his sin. We believe in the sufficiency of Christ alone to redeem men and women from their sin through his sacrificial death on the cross. We believe that Christ has given His disciples a commission to proclaim this gospel of r

edemption so that He might build His church until He returns. Therefore, we proclaim salvation by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ alone to those around us in our community so that God might save many. We believe that God redeems His church so that we might worship Him. We believe that God is absolutely soverign, holy, and worthy to be praised. Therefore, we believe the church is to God-centered, not man-centered, and we seek to direct the activities of our church at increasing the worship of God in His people. We also believe that Jesus Christ, as the pattern, object, means, and example of our worship, serves as the cornerstone of the church. Therefore, we seek to uphold Christ in everything we do. We believe that the inerrant Scripture is fully sufficient to instruct God's people in everything necessary to love and obey Him. Therefore, we exalt the Scriptures above any human opinion, and we strive to uphold the authority of the Scriptures in everything we do. We believe that God has granted the Holy Spirit to the church so that the body might build itself up in love. Therefore, we promote biblical church membership under the God-ordained authority of His chosen elders as a means of preserving the unity and holiness of the body for the building up of itself in love.

In an "epilogue" an author will usually provide some additional details to a story that will either tie-up loose ends in the plot or give the reader a preview of what to expect in the next stage of the story. In John's Gospel, John gives us an epilogue, and in this epilogue, he takes the opportunity to clarify some questions his readers may have about what to expect moving forward in the mission Christ is sending His disciples on. Ryan explains in a message from John 21:1-25 entitled "The After-Word."

The Christian race can often become weary, and in those moments of weariness, it becomes easy to wonder if the running is in vain. In John 20:24-31, John reveals that he writes his Gospel so that you would not grow faint but believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God, and so that by believing you might have life in His name. How is John's testimony regarding Jesus sufficient for that kind of hope? Ryan explains in a message entitled "That You May Believe."

In Matthew 18:1-14, Jesus says that every single Christian is precious in God's sight, and because of this, His disciples need to be faithful to pursue one another when a fellow disciple goes astray. What does this look like in action? How should we pursue one another in love? Ryan explains in the second part of a two-part message from Matthew 18:15-20 entitled "No Man Left Behind."

When we think of Christ's resurrection, we are perhaps most prone to think of "life." After all, it's through Christ's resurrection that we have hope we, too, will one day rise from the dead. But would it surprise you to learn that Jesus' resurrection does not only proclaim the promise of life, but truth, as well? Ryan explains in a message from John 20:1-23 entitled, "Truth Lives."

One of the ways we like to celebrate Passion Week at Cornerstone is with our annual Maundy Thursday service. What is "Maundy Thursday?" The word "maundy" comes from the Latin "mandatum," which means "command" - because it was on this day of Passion Week (Thursday) that Christ had a final meal with His disciples and told them, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." (John 13:34)

In commemoration of that meal, we gather as a church and remember the words Christ spoke to His disciples as He prepared them for the events of Good Friday. We do this by reflecting upon a portion of those instructions and then celebrating the Lord's Table together.

If you'd like to join us for our Maundy Thursday service, you're certainly welcome! The service starts at 6:30PM this Thursday, April 2.

What did Jesus die for? You might say "sin" - and you'd be right. However, in John's Gospel, Jesus doesn't only die for sin. He dies for truth. What does that mean, and how does the way Jesus die proclaim that truth? Ryan explains in part two of a series from John 19:23-42 entitled, "Truth Wins."

A great way to prepare for Easter Sunday is to spend time reflecting upon the events leading up to Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, and that's the direction we take during our annual "Passion Week Reading Plan." During this plan, we re-trace, and, in a sense, re-live the events of Passion Week "in real time" by reading what happened on each day of the week. This is a harmonized reading plan, which means you'll get the events of Passion Week "re-pieced" and "re-ordered" in the chronological sequence in which they occurred from all four Gospel accounts.

If you'd like to join us as we read our way through Passion Week, you can find our reading plan on the main page of our Cornerstone app. Just click on the appropriate day, and read the selections straight through to get a feel for the events of the week as they transpired. As an added bonus, we'll also send push notifications throughout the week, reminding you of what happened on each day of the week, with multiple push notifications coming throughout the day on Good Friday.

You can download the Cornerstone app at one of the two links below to get started.
