Memorial Services for Mr. James Lyndon Kelly will be held Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 2 pm, at Lucern Methodist Church, 1663 Erin Lucern Road, Union, MS 39365

James Lyndon Kelly, a native of Leake County, Mississippi, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 1, 2026. Mr. Kelly was born in Carthage, Mississippi, on May 13, 1942, and graduated from Carthage High School in 1960.
After marrying, he and his wife, Kitty Holder Kelly, moved to Jackson to start their family, and Mr. Kelly began working in manufacturing. His first jobs in manufacturing were with Desoto Plastics and Gulf Plastics in Jackson, where he made wooden prototypes and patterns for use in injection molding and casting plastic parts. He never took credit for his craftsmanship, as he was quick to say his skills were God-given and not his own. Throughout his life, he also used those skills to build handmade home furnishings in his woodworking shop. In his forties, he built houses as a self-employed building contractor. Later in life, Mr. Kelly put his building and maintenance skills to work at Milwaukee Tool Company in Jackson and then at Central Electric Power Association in Carthage, from which he retired."
He is survived by his son, James Lyndon "Lyn" Kelly, Jr., and his wife, Julia Douglass Kelly of Brandon, MS. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Julia Risher Kelly from Tupelo, MS and five grandchildren, James Blake Kelly, of Dallas, TX, Alex Lee (husband, Winston), of Gluckstadt, MS, Benton Kelly of Brandon, MS, Taylor Kelly of Tupelo, MS and Mattie Kelly of Oxford, MS. Also survived by one great-grandchild, Stevie Ann Lee of Gluckstadt, MS. Mr. Kelly is survived by one sister, Linda Fay Shepard (husband, Dwight) and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Kitty Holder Kelly, and his son, W. Layne Kelly, as well as his parents, James Odell and Wilma James Peoples of Carthage.

Well, the day has finally arrived where Jane Livingston has officially retired. We will miss her but we thank God for her and Mr Gene’s faithful service all these years. We pray God’s blessings on both!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Our Children’s Policy at Carthage Methodist Church
We wanted to make sure everyone is aware of our policy regarding children in church:
If your kids are loud, please still come to church.
If you’re running late because getting everyone out the door was a battle, please still come to church.
If your toddler won’t sit still, please still come to church.
If your baby needs to eat, please still come to church.
If your child asks questions at the least convenient time, please still come to church.
If someone cries, drops a toy, needs a snack, or has to make their third trip to the bathroom, please still come to church.
If your child doesn’t know all the words, all the prayers, or exactly when to sit and stand, please still come to church.
If you feel like you spent the entire service managing your children and heard approximately 12% of the sermon, please still come to church.
If Sunday morning feels messy instead of peaceful, please still come to church.
If you’re worried your children are distracting the people around you, please still come to church.
Because children do not learn how to be part of the Church by staying home until they can sit quietly.
They learn by being here.
They learn the hymns by hearing us sing them.
They learn the prayers by hearing us pray them.
They learn to worship by watching us worship.
They learn that church is home because we make room for them here.
The wiggles, whispers, dropped crayons, crying babies, and little voices are not interruptions to the life of the Church.
They are evidence that the Church is alive.
So bring the babies. Bring the toddlers. Bring the big kids. Come late. Sit in the back. Sit in the front. Step out when you need to and come right back in.
Just come.
Children are not simply the future of the Church. They are part of the Church ....right now.
And at CMC there is a place for yours!
