Age to Age Capital Campaign: Phase Two

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Thanks to those who have already submitted pledges at the service, via US mail, or simply putting it in the offering plate. As you may know, the purpose of Phase 2 Age to Age Capital Campaign is to raise $500,000 in cash and pledges to fund our $6500/month mortgage payment for the next five years (2019 - 2023). Most likely it will take only $400,000 to fund the principal and interest (P & I) payments over that term, but the Age to Age committee set the goal at $500,000 in order to offset the reality of parishioners who, due to changes in employment, events of illness or death, or changes in circumstances, are not able to complete their pledges. Another advantage of the higher goal is to enable an acceleration of principal pay down.

When you consider your gift/pledge, don't let the $500,000 goal seem insurmountable. If 70 families gave $100.00/month for 5 years, we would raise $420,000, but It is our prayer that we will have participation from the whole parish. No gifts or pledges are too small and all gifts and pledges are confidential. Pledge cards are available at the church in the Parish Hall and in the church office.

We now have 45 pledges totaling $308,575.00.

The Age to Age Committee members are: Kathi White, Brenda Worley, Larry Pritchard, Corinne Scott, Annette and Charles Cook, Sam and Beth Hood, Houston and Kerry Suggs, Maggie and Keith Martin, Mal Underwood, Drew Tonsmeire, Jamie Hamilton, Mother Mary and Joe White. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Age to Age Committee

Age to Age Capital Campaign: Phase Two

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Thanks to all who were able to celebrate Ascension Eve at the parish. We heard some fine, soul-filled (and hilarious) preaching from Fr. Stuart. Thanks also to those who have already submitted pledges at the service, via US mail, or simply putting it in the offering plate. As you may know, the purpose of Phase 2 Age to Age Capital Campaign is to raise $500,000 in cash and pledges to fund our $6500/month mortgage payment for the next five years (2019 - 2023). No gifts or pledges are too small and all gifts and pledges are confidential. Pledge cards are available at the church in the Parish Hall and in the church office.

We now have 38 pledge cards turned in for a total of 271,555.00.

We've come a long way since fall of 2014! We have been enjoying our beautiful new parish hall for a few years and now it is time to enter Phase Two of our Age to Age Campaign.

You have recently received an invitation to attend one of our A2A receptions. Please come and enjoy some wine and fellowship as we embark on a new journey into Phase Two!

For questions, please call the Ascension office at (770)-382-2626.

Building Update
The new building is taking shape, but there are still a lot of little details that need to be addressed inside and out. This starts with bracing all of the wood roof trusses that have been erected this week. We must also install all of the engineered clips and anchors required to resist wind loads and uplift as per commercial building codes. We expect to spend the next week tying everything together before we install the roof decking materials and building the remaining roof rafters, gable and wall framing. This is particularly complex where the two different roof pitches of the parish hall and educational wing intersect. Next week, we hope to start to install the water service line and sewer outfall line, weather permitting. --from Gary Newell, Contractor.

Age to Age Phase One and Phase Two

The Season of Easter marks our third anniversary since we moved in and began enjoying our newly renovated home including parish hall, kitchen, bathrooms, and classrooms. The mighty generous hearts of members working together made it possible. Some who started pledging and paying in 2014 when we were under construction will have been contributing for five years at the end of 2018. Others pledged for different amounts of time, given their circumstances, but the important thing to note is that we will still have more to pay on our mortgage. With many pledges coming to an end we want to celebrate your generosity during Age to Age Phase One and ask for your support and pledge for Age to Age Phase Two.

Most of you will have already received an invitation to a reception to celebrate our first five years of Age to Age Capital Campaign. To RSVP, please send an email to [email protected] by April 15.

Please come. Enjoy the time with other members of the family who call Ascension "home".

Easter blessings abound!

On behalf of the Vestry and Steering Committee, I am pleased and grateful to announce that we have been given the Certificate of Occupancy for the new building.

We will receive keys this Friday and instructions for maintenance of our new building on Saturday. ...AND we will have access this coming Sunday, March 1, 2015 for tours and use of the bathrooms!

There will be some work that still needs to be done this week and next week as the "punch list" is identified and addressed.

On Saturday, March 7, 2015,(weather permitting) we will remove our items from storage and begin the process of transitioning back into the building. If you have a truck,a strong back, and availability; please contact Jamie Hamilton.

Brothers and Sisters, with God's help we have accomplished a great feat. We have built it together...something none of us could have done on our own. In my book it doesn't get any better than that!

This is the day which the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

This is an exciting time! We are drawing close to the end of this project! The exterior is in the process of being painted. The interior is receiving its finishing touches in terms of construction; and soon we will switching to cosmetic finishes. The Parish Hall is large and filled with natural, beautiful sunlight! The windows are beautiful. The bathrooms are nearly complete. Sidewalks are being poured tomorrow. We cannot wait for the big 'unveiling'! Thank you to all who made this happen!

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:
The interior of the Parish Hall and Education building is going up very fast! All the drywall has been installed, and finished with the first coat of primer paint. The ceiling grid is being installed now and lighting is next. We have transitioned over to a permanent power source. We have nominal heat now too! The construction site will continue to look a bit messy at this stage as we connect the downspouts and roof drains to a special underground piping system. Once this is complete, we will begin our final grading for sidewalks and landscaping. It won’t be long now! -- Gary Newell, Collins & Collins Company.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:
From the outside you have likely noticed the significant progress of the board and batten siding as the church addition begins to make its presence known at the corner of Church and Bartow. From Cherokee Avenue you can see the ornate overhanging brackets that are now in place above the front entrance to the Parish Hall. What you can’t see is the installation of the R-38 Insulation in the building which has significantly quieted the building down and warmed it up from the colder weather outside. The drywall has begun, and the Gutters & Downspouts are installed. Waiting and watching as the building elements come together is a lot like Advent, as we move closer toward the completion of this significant step in the life of Church of the Ascension. -- Gary Newell from Collins and Collins Construction.
