The problem wasn’t the seed.
It was what happened after it was received.

The goal isn’t to hear a good sermon on Sunday.

The goal is to let God’s Word take root deeply enough that it changes how you live on Monday.

Hebrews 4:1-11

The problem that the Children of Israel had:
The Majority believed what they saw [they saw giants]
The Minority believed what they heard [God’s Promise]

The people did not enter into the wonderful Promised Land because they would not believe in the God who promised them that wonderful land.

[The wilderness experience leads to…]
1. Wondering
2. Weariness
3. Worry

1) There is Salvation Rest

Hebrews 4:1,2

2) There is Sanctified Rest

Hebrews 4:8,9

3) There is Sufficient Rest

Life's Defining Moments

[Hebrews 3:7-19] reveal that Israel’s “defining moment” was not when they crossed the Red Sea. It was when they stood at the border of Canaan, the Promised Land and choose whether to Trust God or not.

How can you know if a "Defining Moment" is before you?

1. God has a Word for you (Listen to Him)
2. God Demands a Response from you (Obey Him)
3. God Promises to Provide for you (Trust Him)

1) The Painful Experience

Hebrews 3:7-11

The person who doubts the power of God does so in spite of all the wonders of His hand not because of a lack of proof.

Many believers will spend their entire life ‘brought out’ of their past but not ‘brought into’ their rest because they've been “brought down” by unbelief.

2) The Personal Encouragement

Hebrews 3:12-14

(3:13) The words “exhort one another” is a title given to the Holy Spirit; Someone to come alongside and call out to help. Believers need to encourage and help one another.

If you are a true follower of Christ, there will be evidence that you are a Christian. It will be traced back to Christ!

3) The Powerful Enlightenment

Hebrews 3:15-19

When you constantly disobey God and live in sin, you will get all you want but you won't want what you will get!

"A people who had trusted God to bring them out of Egypt simply refused to trust Him to bring them into Canaan. As a result, they lost, not their salvation, but the joy, peace, and the rest God intended for them in the Promised Land." (John Phillips)

Deliverance can break the chains, but only surrender can change the heart. God is faithful to bring us out of Egypt—out of bo***ge, out of cycles, out of places that once held us captive. But the journey doesn’t end at freedom. Freedom is the beginning, not the destination.

Too often we want God to remove us from the struggle while still holding onto the mindset that kept us there. We celebrate being set free, yet resist letting go of old habits, old fears, old comforts, and old ways of thinking. But God doesn’t just want to rescue you, He wants to renew you. He doesn’t only want to change your surroundings; He wants to transform your surrender.

Surrender is where healing goes deeper. It’s where pride is laid down, control is released, and trust is fully placed in Him. It’s where Egypt loses its grip, not just on your life, but on your heart. Because the wilderness isn’t punishment, it’s preparation. It’s where God teaches you to rely on Him daily, not just when you’re desperate.

If you feel stuck between where you’ve been and where God is taking you, ask yourself: Have I accepted deliverance but resisted surrender? Today, choose to lay it all down. Let God do the deeper work. Let Him cleanse what He has already freed. Because when you fully surrender, you don’t just leave Egypt behind—you step into the life God always intended for you. 🤍🙏🏻

We were able to bless Hickory Log with our VBS offering again this year! Pastor Sammy and Mr. Randy were both great sports.
