2 Timothy 4:7 KJV
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

“I have fought a good fight”
The word translated “fought” comes from the Greek (Agōnizomai)

It means:

* To contend
* To strive intensely
* To struggle with determination
* To fight like an athlete in competition

It is where we get the English word “agonize.”

This paints the picture of:

* An Olympic athlete straining for victory.
* A soldier battling through conflict.

* Someone exerting everything to fulfill a purpose.

Paul was not speaking about a casual Christian life. He was describing a life of spiritual warfare, discipline, perseverance, sacrifice, and endurance.

“I have finished my course”
The phrase “finished” comes from:

Greek word (Teléō)

Meaning:

* To complete
* To accomplish
* To fulfill
* To bring to its intended end

It comes from the root: (Telos) meaning:

* End
* Goal
* Purpose
* Intended destiny

This is not merely “stopping.” It means:

Bringing something to full completion according to its divine purpose.

Paul’s statement is the language of:
* A warrior
* An athlete
* A steward

He fought with endurance. He completed his divine assignment. He remained faithful to God until the very end.

A powerful way to summarize the verse is:

“I gave everything in the struggle, I completed the assignment God gave me, and I remained faithful to Him through it all.”

In Hebrews 10:23, the phrase “hold fast” comes from the Greek word katechō, which carries the idea of:

To keep secure
To hold firmly
To retain possession of
To cling to without letting go
To take possession of and keep
To possess continually

So the verse is calling believers to:

Maintain a firm grip on their confession of faith without surrendering to doubt, fear, pressure, or opposition.

The word paints the picture of someone gripping something valuable tightly and refusing to release it.

Hebrews 10:23 KJV:
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”

The foundation for “holding fast” is not human strength alone, but the faithfulness of God:
“for he is faithful that promised.”

It was a space like this that I got healing from grief.

Isaiah 53:5
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

There is a "G" bigger than grief. God!
