Judges 2:6-15 When Joshua died, the people were of one mind to serve the Lord, and remained so throughout the lives of the elders (leaders) of the people that outlived Joshua. The problem was that they never developed a love of God and, coupled with absence of the signs that marked their parents' relationship with God, began to serve other gods - especially from the remnants of those nations that Israel failed to drive out. This began a cycle that involved the departure of Israel from the Lord, then their domination by the nations around them, followed by their cry of despair and then God sending a judge to release them from their plight. As with Joshua, the people would then follow the Lord during the life of the judge, only to fall away once more once the judge died - beginning the cycle once more.
