Mark 2:18-28 Jesus wras asked two questions; why didn't His disciples fast like the disciples of the Pharisees and of John the Baptist, ajd why did He allow His disciples to pluck ears of corn for them to eat on the Sabbath? To those who questiojned Him, Jesus first likened His first coming to that of th bridegroom - those who are with the wedding celebrate and do not fast...but if he is taken away, it becomes a time of concern or anxiety and therefore fasting is needed. He also explained the importance of being made 'anew' through the sewing of a new piece of cloth to old clothing and through the putting of new wine in old bottles. To those who demanded an answer regarding His disciples' actions on the Sabbath, Jesus throguh a story in scripture regarding David and the shewbread explained plainly that man was never made to serve the Sabbath, but that the Sabbath was instead made to serve man.
