1. 𝐄𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬: 𝑺𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒍 will es**rt you with nine angels chosen from each of the nine choirs of angels when you are approaching Holy Communion.

2. 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞: 𝑺𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒍 and all angels will provide you with continual assistance and protection throughout life, whether physical, spiritual, or emotional.

3. 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡: If you and your family need to go to Purgatory for purification before Heaven, 𝑺𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒍 will quickly deliver from there and es**rt you to Heaven.

The ℭ𝔥𝔞𝔭𝔩𝔢𝔱 𝔬𝔣 𝔖𝔞𝔦𝔫𝔱 𝔐𝔦𝔠𝔥𝔞𝔢𝔩 comes from a private revelatory vision given in 1751 to Servant of God Antonia d’Astonac, a devout Portuguese Carmelite nun. St. Michael told her that he wanted to be honored by nine salutations corresponding to the 𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒊𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒔.

This devotion grew widely, and 100 years later received from Pope Pius IX an official approval and a series of four indulgences.

According to 𝐒𝐭. 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 in his book the Protoevangelium, 𝓜𝓪𝓻𝔂 was born of Saints Ann and Joachim. Drawing from the Song of Songs 2:1, “I am a flower of the field, a lily of the valleys,” 𝐒𝐭. 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐨 described the birth of the 𝓑𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼𝓮𝓭 𝓥𝓲𝓻𝓰𝓲𝓷 𝓜𝓪𝓻𝔂, “𝓢𝓱𝓮 𝓲𝓼 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓯𝓵𝓸𝔀𝓮𝓻 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓯𝓲𝓮𝓵𝓭 𝓯𝓻𝓸𝓶 𝔀𝓱𝓸𝓶 𝓫𝓵𝓸𝓸𝓶𝓮𝓭 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓹𝓻𝓮𝓬𝓲𝓸𝓾𝓼 𝓵𝓲𝓵𝔂 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓿𝓪𝓵𝓵𝓮𝔂.”

This analogy expresses how the lily blooms from the flower: 𝓜𝓪𝓻𝔂 is the necessary, simple flower, an ordinary human being “of the field,” born of human parents; 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕 is the lily of the valley, which symbolizes purity & divinity — He is something even more precious, beautiful, and fragrant. The birth of 𝓜𝓪𝓻𝔂 was a prelude to the birth of her son 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒔. She was chosen & destined by 𝐆𝐨𝐝 to become the 𝓜𝓸𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓦𝓸𝓻𝓭, 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒔 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕, even before she was conceived.

Her birth also shifted our human nature in order to prepare for the Incarnation, as 𝐒𝐭. 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 concludes, “Through her birth, the nature inherited from our first parents is changed.” The change was our fallen human nature was transformed. Despite being born within a fallen human nature, 𝓜𝓪𝓻𝔂 was conceived immaculately and born free of sin, and thus became the pure source from which the lily, 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕, emerged.

𝓜𝓪𝓻𝔂 in return was elevated to be the Queen of Heaven, and Queen of all the Angels and Saints. God is never outdone in generosity; and the trust 𝓜𝓪𝓻𝔂 had in God merited her the highest role under 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒅𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒔, 𝑷𝒐𝒑𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒈𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒑𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝑹𝒐𝒎𝒆

The nine choirs were divided into 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐝𝐬 by Pope St. Gregory the Great, who served as pope from the year 590 until 604, in his 34th Homily on the Gospels, §10.

The highest triad is the 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐦, 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐛𝐢𝐦, and 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 or 𝐎𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦.

The second triad is the 𝐃𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 or 𝐃𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐞𝐬, and 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬.

The third triad is the 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬, and 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬.

Our patron 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥 is a member of the second choir of the third triad, the 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬; but he was elevated to be the 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒔 of God’s Heavenly Army.

Furthermore, St. Gregory the Great witnessed an apparition of St. Michael the Archangel on April 25, 590, during a penitential procession through Rome amid a devastating plague which resulted after a flood. St. Michael appeared on top of the Mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, which Pope Gregory later renamed 𝑪𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒍 𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒕’𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒐 (“Castle of the Holy Angel”) in honor of the Saint Michael, who sheathed his sword to signal that God had accepted their prayers, and the plague suddenly ended.

The 𝑪𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒍 𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒕’𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒐 is located near St. Peter’s Basilica and is connected by a half-mile long, covered passageway called Pasetto di Borgo, which was built in 1277 by Pope Nicholas III.

In the early 1500s, Pope Leo X built a chapel at the top of Hadrian’s tomb; and in 1536 a large marble statue of St. Michael was created and placed on top of what is now a tall rotunda, 𝑪𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒍 𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒕’𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒐. The marble statue was replaced by a beautiful bronze statue in 1753, and it still stands today.

𝟕 𝑩𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒔:

1. Angels are 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 in our earthly affairs and are 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 of them (1 Peter 1:12, Luke 15:7).

2. Angels 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 to God (Tobit 12:12-15, Revelation 8:3-4)

3. “Heavenly Father, we praise You for Your infinite glory, wisdom and power! Your thoughts are higher than ours, as the heavens are higher than earth. Only You could have so perfectly written the story of salvation. We thank You for the cross of Your Son Jesus Christ, as it reconciled us to You and brought about our salvation.

We thank You for the many gifts and graces we have already received, and we ask You to pour out Your Holy Spirit to transform us to be more like Jesus. We pray that our minds may be illuminated and renewed so that we may discern Your will at every moment. We see the vision You have for us to flourish in our human nature and in Your grace, as we know and act upon what is good, pleasing and perfect in Your eyes.

Your love inspires us to daily take up our cross and follow after Jesus. We ask You to share many graces with Your holy angels, especially Saint Michael, to guard and guide us along the straight and narrow path toward Heaven. Amen.” 🙏
