A breath prayer from this week's Gospel reading 🙏

“In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places… I go to prepare a place for you.” — John 14:2

Jesus offered these words to his disciples during a moment of uncertainty. He reminded them (and us, as well) of God's promise of belonging. We are always held in God's grace.

There is room for everyone.

đź’ How does it shape your faith to trust that God has prepared a place for you?

Lord, our rock and refuge,
even in our shortcomings
Your grace redeems and strengthens us.

As we gather this weekend,
reveal to us the ways in which
Your steadfast love is present
in our practices of ministry.

Amen.

We thank God for the pastorates of Ellen Comstock, Lynne Hundley, Becky Gwaltney, and Korri Garrett! Thank you for answering "Yes!" to God's call to pastoral ministry!

Seventy years ago, the Church recognized what God had already been doing, calling women to preach, teach, lead, and serve. In 1956, women were granted full clergy rights in The United Methodist Church, shaping the life of our communities ever since. đź©·

Today we give thanks for the faithful witness of clergywomen past and present and look ahead with hope for what is still to come.

This weekend's recommended lectionary readings note that God calls us to flourishing lives, and shows up in the presence of Christ to lead us there.

May our gatherings through this weekend provide a inspiration for following God's loving voice towards life in abundance.

Let us pray:
Living God,
we gather in expectation of hearing your voice,
which calls us into pastures of abundant life.

Speak through our experiences of worship
and our actions of joyful service.

Through our faith communities
may your voice be heard throughout the world.

Amen.

John Wesley noted the expansive nature of God's grace. It is ever-present if we have the willingness to accept it.

"The grace or love of God, whence cometh our salvation, is FREE IN ALL, and FREE FOR ALL." - Sermon 128, Free Grace

An excellent reflection as we approach the third Sunday of Easter. This Sunday we remember the heavy-hearted disciples walking to Emmaus that first Easter evening and not recognizing the risen Christ was walking with them until he joined them for supper, blessed bread, and broke it. May God's love be shed abroad in our hearts as well as we continue to find the risen Christ walking with us!

John Wesley founded Methodism. A prolific writer, he printed several volumes of his sermons during his lifetime. The published sermons either were rewritten from ones that he had preached or were written specifically for print.

The story of Thomas reveals that we are not alone in our moments of doubt. Nor are we rejected because of our doubts. God's presence continues to lead us.

Ever-present, ever-patient God,
the persistence of injustice
and strife in the world often bring us to places of doubt.
As we remember the miracle of resurrection, may we also be reminded of Christ’s ongoing presence and work in the world.
Open our eyes to the truth
of Your presence.
