Fear can make the world look smaller than God's work in it.

This Sunday, October 25, we close Fear Not with Week 3: “You're Not Powerless” from 1 Kings 19:9-18 (ESV).

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔

𝗚𝗼𝗱'𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿.

𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗣𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘

“And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.”- 1 Kings 19:12 (ESV)

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗘'𝗟𝗟 𝗦𝗘𝗘

𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲. Yesterday's victory does not remove today's vulnerability. Elijah runs from Jezebel's threat, and exhaustion deepens his discouragement.

𝗚𝗼𝗱'𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. God meets Elijah where he stopped, reveals Himself beyond wind, earthquake, and fire, and shows that His purposes reach far past this one crisis.

𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱. Renewed direction begins with a concrete next step, and Elijah learns there are seven thousand others still faithful. Far more than he could see.

Identify your next faithful step, and one person who can walk with you as you take it.

The cave is not the end of Elijah's story. Your strength may be depleted, but God has the power to sustain you in what He calls you to do.

Friday: some questions answer themselves when you know who’s holding the ground you stand on.

Scripture
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”- Psalm 27:1 (ESV)

Observation
David’s confidence isn’t a denial of danger. The rest of the psalm names armies and adversaries. It’s a declaration about the ground: the LORD is his light, his salvation, his stronghold. When the strongest thing in your life is not the threat but the fortress, fear loses its arithmetic. The question “whom shall I fear?” is rhetorical because the answer is already settled.

Application
What fear has been doing math with your peace lately, calculating worst cases, measuring your odds? Reclaim the ground today: the LORD is your stronghold. Name your stronghold out loud before you name your fear, and let that order shape the rest of your day.

Prayer
Lord, You are my light, my salvation, my stronghold. When fear starts doing the math, bring me back to who holds the ground I stand on. Steady me in You today. Amen.

Anxiety is heavy because we were never meant to hold it all. There’s a better place to set it down.

Scripture
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”- Philippians 4:6–7 (ESV)

Observation
Paul doesn’t offer a technique for emptying the mind; he offers a trade. Anxiety is exchanged through prayer (everything made known to God, with thanksgiving) and what comes back is peace that stands guard. Not peace because every problem is solved, but peace while they’re still in motion, a sentry over heart and mind.

Application
What’s the “anything” in your life that anxiety keeps circling? Don’t just name it: make it known to God with thanksgiving, out loud and specifically. Then let His peace do the guarding today. Your job is honesty; the watch over your heart is His.

Prayer
Father, I bring You everything: the worries I’ve rehearsed and the ones I haven’t said yet. Thank You that Your peace stands guard over my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Teach me to trade anxiety for prayer, one honest request at a time. Amen.

Midweek check: you were never asked to be strong alone.

Scripture
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”- Joshua 1:9 (ESV)

Observation
Notice the order of the sentence. The command to be courageous comes with a reason attached: “for the LORD your God is with you.” Joshua was about to step into a role that felt far bigger than him, and God grounded his courage not in Joshua’s ability but in His own presence. Wherever goes the “wherever you go”. Courage travels with the promise.

Application
There’s a step ahead of you this week that feels bigger than you. Take it anyway, not by summoning a braver version of yourself, but by trusting the presence that goes with you. Courage is simply obedience walking alongside company.

Prayer
God, You have commanded me not to fear, and You have promised to go with me wherever I step. Strengthen my trembling hands and steady my heart. Help me take the next step with You. Amen.

Somewhere between the asking and the answer, God is already at work.

Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Daily Devotional

Scripture
“I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.”- Psalm 34:4 (ESV)

Observation
David doesn’t say he outthought his fears or outworked them. He says he sought the LORD, and was answered. The deliverance he describes starts with turning toward God. Fear loses its grip not when circumstances change first, but when we bring our whole anxious selves to the One who hears.

Application
What fear have you been managing on your own this week? Today, seek instead of manage. Bring it to God plainly, out loud if you can, and watch for how He answers: sometimes through a changed situation, and always through a changed heart.

Prayer
Lord, I seek You today with the fears I’ve been carrying quietly. Thank You for hearing and answering. Deliver me, and teach me to run toward You before I run to my own solutions. Amen.

A new week rarely feels fearless when it begins. But courage was never something we had to manufacture.

Monday, October 19, 2026, Daily Devotional

Scripture
“God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”- 2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)

Observation
Paul writes these words from a jail cell to a young pastor who is tempted to shrink back. He doesn’t tell Timothy the assignment will get easier. He reminds him of what God has already placed inside him: not a spirit of fear, but power, love, and self-control. Fear is not our identity; it is not what God gave us.

Application
Before the week gathers speed, name the place where you feel like shrinking back: the conversation, the decision, the risk. Then remember what you’ve been given instead. Walk into today leaning on power, acting in love, and holding steady with self-control.

Prayer
Father, thank You for giving me a spirit of power, love, and self-control. When fear tells me to shrink back, remind me that it is not what You placed in me. Give me courage for this week’s next step. Amen.

As we gather this Sunday, remember: you were never meant to walk alone.

Scripture
“The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”- Psalm 145:18 (ESV)

Observation
God’s nearness isn’t a reward for having everything together. He meets us when we call honestly, with our fears, our questions, and our need. And often, we glimpse His care through the people who gather beside us. In Christ, we are welcomed into a hope that holds us together: you’re not alone.

Application
Bring God what’s truly on your heart today. Then make room for fellowship: reach out, share a burden, or simply show up. We can become a reminder of God’s nearness to one another.

Prayer
Jesus, thank You for drawing near when we call. Help us come honestly, receive Your care, and share that care with those around us. Remind us that we do not walk alone. Amen.

When the week shifts beneath our feet, Jesus offers a steady place to stand.

Scripture, Matthew 28:20 (ESV)
“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Observation: These words come as Jesus sends His disciples into the world. He doesn’t promise that the road will be easy or predictable. He promises something deeper: His presence will not leave them. The risen Christ is with His people through every change and every uncertain step.

Application: As this week draws to a close, name what feels unsettled. You don’t have to pretend everything is fine or face it alone. Take the next step trusting that Jesus is near, not only when circumstances are calm, but right in the middle of them.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for staying with us through every change. When our hearts feel restless, help us rest in Your presence and walk forward with hope. Amen.

Fear tends to shrink the room we live in. God answers it by reminding us who is standing with us.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗘’𝗟𝗟 𝗦𝗘𝗘

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲. Before God addresses Israel's fear, He reminds them who they belong to. Their circumstances have not erased His commitment to them.

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂. His command not to fear comes with a reason: He is with His people. He strengthens, helps, and upholds.

𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽. God takes hold of the right hand of those He calls to trust Him, and Christ promises to be with us always.
