ABOUT TESTAMENT OF LOVE CHURCH

***HOURS DURING THE WEEK ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY***

Testament of Love Church has been established to proclaim the wonderful love of God that is available to everyone! Jesus said, “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.” John 13:35
This is the love that changed the world 2,000 years ago and it’s the love that will hav

e the greatest impact on the world now. Walking in His love is what maximizes our potential as believers and gives us the greatest harvests in life. We invite you to join us in worship and connect with other believers who love to fellowship around the Word of God. We believe that God desires to equip each of us with a wonderful testimony that declares His love for us. It’s the love that marks us from heaven as God’s very own! In Him,
Tom Totton, Senior Pastor I John 2:5

Pastor Tom's Bio
With a background as a rock musician, Pastor Tom came to know the Lord in 1975 when he was 24 years old. A few years later, he began his ministry by leading praise and worship for several churches on the east coast traveling extensively throughout New England. In addition to serving in churches in music ministry and extensively studying the Bible, he also established and has operated a successful insurance agency for many years. In recent years Pastor Tom has served on the pastoral staffs of two churches in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, which ultimately led to the formation of Testament of Love Church, scheduled to launch on March 6th, 2016. The vision is to establish a New Testament Church where a real Savior is the Head and the love and grace of the Father is proclaimed in the power of the Holy Spirit to individual, families, communities, regions and then the nations. Pastor Tom and his wife, Laurie, have been married for 35 plus years and have lived in the northwest suburbs of Chicago since 1988. They are blessed to have family living nearby. Please allow approximately 24 hours for response to inquiries. Give by Mail:

“Excellence isn't about perfection — it's about alignment with what is true, noble, pure, and lovely."

“O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.”” Psalms 8:1

The word, ‘excellent’ above is translated elsewhere in the Old Testament as famous, gallant, glorious, greatness, power and noble. But no matter how it’s translated, it cannot express the splendor, majesty, power and greatness of the King of Heaven! The Hebrew word is addiyr (ad-deer) which is the highest excellence which also carries the idea of being complete in every way!

This is the excellence that was veiled in human flesh and walked by faith, lived in hope, and loved beyond mere human capacity! This is the excellence that held multitudes spellbound with words that were never uttered before, miracles that were never witnessed before, mercy that was never imagined before; and love that embraced the rich and powerful, as well as the drunkard and pr******te as those who are valued by God, to which the Pharisees ascribed to Him the title, “Friend of Sinners!”

And though Jesus never partook of their sin, He could sit with them and talk with them and never once made them feel as if they were less of a person than anyone else! His love wasn’t cloaked in religion either. His love was genuine! He proved it when He died for us all! These are the qualities of excellence that still invite us to taste the same grace, faith, mercy and truth that others did. It’s still as real today as it was then. (Hebrews 13:8)

It’s a love that never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8), a love that is alien to this fallen world. The only reason we can know this kind of love is because Jesus revealed it to us in all He did. It was all for us that He came and lived and died. He is the One whose excellence comes from the excellent love of the Father. He is the One who came into this world to pay the only price ever accepted in heaven for you and me; a price that gave us the right to experience His excellent Name, and His excellent love for eternity! “O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.”

With Love,
Pastor Tom

“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” James 4:6

We’ve all known people who are filled with pride, and were always boasting of themselves, their accomplishments, or their possessions - always trying to impress, or one-up everyone else. They most likely believe everyone is hanging on their every word, but the truth is, most of the listeners are looking for a polite way of excusing themselves for the nearest exit. Pride never impresses others. Instead, it produces the exact opposite. It repels them. We can all use some correction here.

The scriptures focus on the grace of God, which is unmerited favor. We can’t earn God’s love. He loves us because of who He is - He is love, and His love doesn’t rise and fall according to our failures or sins. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is love and He never changes. Yet, when He sees someone overflowing with pride, even though He does love them, He will resist them. That’s because pride is the very nature of His number one enemy, the devil. Pride is also a huge part of the make-up of our flesh, and as long as we have flesh, we too need to resist the tendency to be prideful! God cannot fellowship with pride and He cannot promote pride.

The Good News is that if we humble ourselves, He will give us grace. God is attracted to a humble heart, one who is willing to count all their accomplishments as dung compared to the riches of Christ! God desires to bestow His riches upon those who come to Him based on who He is, and what He has done, rather than what WE have tried to accomplish for Him.

Yes, good works are wonderful, but we will fall short if we expect to receive God’s grace based on our works. There is nothing we can do that will enhance God’s existence whatsoever! No, we do the works that please God when we humble ourselves first and receive the grace we need to accomplish those works He has called us to do. Then we can humbly attribute all the glory to Him. After all, that’s where our works should point others… to Him! Humility attracts others to God. Pride repels others and hinders us from receiving the abundance of God’s grace. With that, pursue humility which is always followed by God’s grace!

With Love,
Pastor Tom
