First Baptist Church Celebrates 150 Years
This year, the First Baptist Church of Caro (FBC) will celebrate its
sesquicentennial (150-year) anniversary with an open house and history display on Saturday, May 16, from 1-4 pm and a worship celebration on Sunday, May 17, at 10:30 am. All are welcome.
The church was formally established on March 25, 1876, by a small group of thirteen people who had gathered regularly for prayer and worship. Later that same year, the church purchased land and began constructing a house of worship that still stands at the point of Almer and Lincoln Streets (the current building of New Creation
Church). Many years later, under the leadership of Pastor Olaf Jensen, the church outgrew its building. In 1959, the church acquired its current property along Gilford Road for a new building with an auditorium, fellowship hall, classrooms, and office space, which was completed in 1963. Forty-two years later, in 2005, under the leadership of Pastor Ron Wigand, another construction project was completed to provide a larger auditorium, foyer, and nursery.
These church buildings serve an important role in the community and life of the church as a permanent house of worship. But the building is not the church. The church is the people. For 150 years, the people of FBC have gathered to worship God through song, scripture, and prayer. For 150 years, the preachers of FBC have shared the good news about Jesus. For 150 years, the members of FBC have ministered to children, teenagers, and the community. For 150 years, this church has aimed to make more and better disciples of Jesus Christ in Caro and beyond. To God be the glory.
