Martha Ann Hemlinger Watters, age 84 of Carmichaels, Pa., passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026 in Evergreen Assisted Living, Waynesburg, Pa. She was born January 2, 1942 in Takoma Park, Maryland a daughter of the late M. Matilda (Murphy) and Louis H. Hemlinger. Mrs. Watters obtained a Master Degree in Education and taught Physical Education in the Fox Chapel School District. She also was the girls hockey coach and served as the Athletic Director until her retirement. After moving back to the farm in Carmichaels she enjoyed the farm life with her husband. Mrs. Watters enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, was active with the girl scouts and was a member of the First Christian Church in Carmichaels, where she was active as the Board Secretary and Church Clerk. In 2001 she married John T. Watters, who passed away on October 31, 2018.
Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth H. Parise (Vince) South Park, Pa. and Mary Lou Shackelford (Chuck) of Littleton, NC; nephew, Kevin Watters (Donna) of Carmichaels and several additional nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A Celebration of Martha’s life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., the hours of a service, on Saturday, March 21, 2026 in the Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home, Inc., Carmichaels, Pa., Paul M. Lesako, Funeral Director/Owner and Aaron S. Walker, Funeral Director.
