FAIRMONT TRINITY MISSION CELEBRATES 25TH SLAVA

This parish has had a long list of faithful believers serving as K*movi.
This is a great blessing to be added to the list. This Mission is very dear to my
heart. We have worked, struggled and prayed together to keep it continuing.
At times there were only a very few people attending the Divine Liturgy.
A few times young Crystal Griffin was the only person doing the responses.
We rarely had more than 15 people. The average was around 8-10 people.
Our Slava rarely exceeded 30 people and several of them came from St. George
Church. The Mission has benefitted from constant support from several
parishioners at St. George Church.
The need exists in this area for the Mission. The Mission has served to nurture
and feed the souls of all having attended here. The atmosphere has always been
friendly, caring and loving.
Classes held here are inspiring and challenging to the heart, mind and soul.
We all learned from the classes. Many meals were enjoyed following the Divine
Liturgy.
To serve as the K*m is a great honor. This parish is part of the history of the
Fairmont community. Some visitors have come from far away. Some parishioners
have moved a great distance and carried the memory of the Mission with them.
The parish website has touched lives beyond the borders of West Virginia.
Reports on the parish’s existence have been included in Diocesan Assembly
reports. Orthodox Christianity has a record in Fairmont, West Virginia.
God is ever-present in West Virgina. God is present at all places and at all times.
God has blessed this Mission through the years. God has blessed each person
coming to the Mission.
The Mission has touched lives well beyond the walls of the chapel. We have
been blessed by Wayne and Joyce Kirby making the space for the chapel available
for twenty-five years. Father Sasa continuing to serve the Mission is a blessing
Thank you for the honor of being the K*m. Thank you for keeping the Mission
alive. Thank you for the prayers, Divine services and classes being held and
continuing. Thank each of you for supporting the Mission in any way.
Father Rodney

As always every year Stanley and Karen Brozik owners of Dolphi's Restaurant host Christmas dinner for friends and family. This year was no exception. There was Birthdays, Retirements, and appreciation recognized. Father Sasa Nedic gave the blessing. The kids had fun finding the coins in the hay. Food was excellent. Thank you Stanley Karen and all of your staff for a wonderful Christmas. CHRIST IS BORN!!!

SIXTY NINTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IN CARMICHAELS
image
The St. George Serbian Orthodox parish in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania is known for the presence of love, peace and hospitality. The 69th Anniversary celebration of the parish church’s consecration was held on November 5, 2023.

His Grace Bishop Irinej officiated at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. Parish priest, Protopresbyter Sasa Nedic, Protopresbyter-Stavropher Dr. Rodney Torbic and Deacon Daniel August concelebrated with His Grace. Reader John Buffalini and Alfred Ellsworth assisted in the altar. The Tsar Lazar Choir under the direction of George Milosh sang soul-nourishing responses. Thomas Wesdock read the Third and Sixth Hours prior to the Divine Liturgy. Dr. Richard Romanas Pearce read the After Communion Prayers of Thanksgiving following the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy.

His Grace Bishop Irinej spoke eloquently about the Rich Man and Lazarus as described in St. Luke’s Gospel. His Grace elaborated on the importance and power of the name given to believers at Holy Baptism. He spoke about wealth being used beneficially in ways pleasing to God and not controlling and possessing the person, and the concept of eternity. His Grace noted the forthcoming Feast of the Dedication of the Church of St. George the Greatmartyr in Lydia, the widespread veneration of St. George and the miracles attributed to St. George.

Father Sasa spoke at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. He expressed great appreciation for His Grace coming each year. He was grateful to the visiting clergy, altar servers, and the Tsar Lazar Choir. Father Sasa recognized the presence of a group of parishioners from Holy Trinity Mission in Fairmont, West Virginia. He thanked his beloved parishioners from St. George Church and all visitors coming for the celebration.

A festal dinner was held at Dolfi’s Restaurant in Masontown following the Divine Liturgy. Father Sasa gave a powerful talk about his recent visit to Orahovica Monastery in Slavonia, where he shared a time of soul-touching silence with the monastery’s abbot at a nearby spring that brings renewal to pilgrims. Father Sasa welcomes believers wanting to come during the week to experience the church in silence for benefit to the soul.

Parish Executive Board President Stan Brozik welcomed and expressed gratitude for all in attendance at the dinner. He had members of the Parish Board stand and be recognized. Tsar Lazar Choir’s contributing presence was acknowledged. St. George Choir Director Sonia Janson was recognized during the dinner.

Presbyter-Economos Branislav Golic, Popadija Dragana and their children came from St. Elijah Church in Aliquippa to attend the dinner. The Diocesan Council was well represented with Father Branislav Golic, Andrea Janson and John Buffalini attending.

His Grace Bishop Irinej provided enlightening remarks of appreciation for all at the dinner. He encouraged the parish to have their celebration on a Saturday for next year’s 70th Anniversary to enable greater participation by other area parishes. His Grace commented on the singing of the Tsar Lazar Choir and expressed hopes the choir would sing additional selections at the dinner.

God has blessed the St. George Church abundantly during the 69 years since the parish church was consecrated. This Anniversary celebration was an offering of thanksgiving to God, to St. George the Greatmartyr as well as the founders, benefactors, clergy and parishioners through the years.

Thomas Joseph Kornick, III

The infant, Thomas, was welcomed as a Serbian Orthodox Christian with his baptism on July 8, 2023. He is the grandson of Mitzie Hunchuck of Masontown and the son of Jennifer [Stephanie] and Thomas Kornick of Orlando, Fla. Thomas is truly a miracle. His parents were married in the St George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels 19 years ago. He is the answer to many years of prayers not only from his family but the clergy and parishioners of the St George Church. His family was thrilled to share their joy with all who attended his baptismal service and celebratory dinner.

Thanks to Fr Sasa Nedic.

Special thanks to Fr Rodney Torbic for the many years of love and support to the Rodavich/Hunchuck/Kornick families.
