🙏 12th Annual Guru Vandana — A Beautiful Evening of Gratitude

On Saturday May 2rd, 2026, Sadhana Shakha was honored to host its 12th Annual Guru Vandana, a cherished tradition celebrating the profound bond between students and their teachers. The evening brought together 17 honored teachers from
Carmel Clay Schools and nearly 80 guests, including shakha families who came to pay their respects.

The program opened with the traditional Deep Prajwalana (lighting of the lamp) by Dr. VimalPatel and Dr.Mahesh Goel, followed by a soulful invocation sung by Geeta Ganthi and noted classical vocalist Anuradha Poduval.

True to our long-standing tradition, two high school students stepped up confidently as Masters of Ceremony — a reminder that the next generation is ready. Our Balas offered heartfelt shloka recitations, middle school students performed a graceful traditional dance, and high school students delivered a thoughtful segment on Ancient India’s contributions to modern science and mathematics.

The evening’s centerpiece was an inspiring talk by our Vakta, Dr. Bharath Sastry, who spoke beautifully on the timeless significance of the Guru in one’s life.

We’re grateful to our Karyakarthas — Prajakta, Trupti, and Mithun — whose dedication, alongside the wider shakha families, made the evening a truly memorable one.

We were honored to welcome Rev. Dr. Lynn Jameson to our Carmel Shakha today. Rev. Lynn shared thoughtful reflections on Black History and the life and message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., highlighting the enduring values of compassion, justice, and service.

With more than four decades of experience in business leadership, ministry, and community work, Rev. Lynn brings a rare ability to connect practical leadership with spiritual purpose. As a Hospice Chaplain and Co-Founder of Cultivating Caring Communities, her life’s work is dedicated to building relationships of care and understanding.

Our young swayamsevaks also had the opportunity to participate and reflect, making the conversation even more meaningful.

Grateful for moments like these that help our community learn from one another and deepen our shared commitment to service and compassion. 🙏

In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, the Carmel chapter of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA (HSS-USA) honored 23 outstanding educators and Superintendent Dr. Michael Beresford of Carmel Clay Schools during its annual Guru Vandana Celebration.

Teachers were honored in the traditional Hindu Dharmic way, where students performed respectful salutations, offered symbolic tokens of gratitude, and expressed reverence for the Guru — a cornerstone of Hindu philosophy that places the teacher as a guiding light in one’s journey of knowledge and character.

Students showcased their appreciation through devotional songs, classical dances, and a vibrant “Colors of India” fashion show displaying the diversity and richness of Hindu culture. Educators also learned about the Hindu Education Foundation and cultural workshops that offer deeper insights into Hindu heritage and values.

🌟 SewaDiwali Food Drive: A Community Effort 🌟

Our dedicated Shakha volunteers, in collaboration with members of Hindu organizations, came together to create and distribute 2,600 pounds of fresh produce care packages to immigrant families from Syria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Congo, Afghanistan, and Myanmar on the southside of Indianapolis! 🥦🍎🥕

This marks the seventh successful distribution of the SewaDiwali Food Drive, spreading the light of service and fostering a sense of unity across our city. 💛

At SewaDiwali, we stand by the principle of serving all with compassion, without regard for race, nationality, or background. Together, we’re building a stronger and more connected community. 💛

Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi with joy and devotion! 🎉

This year, about 30 Bala gathered to create their very own clay Ganesh murthies, combining tradition with creativity. Each young artist poured their heart into crafting the beloved My Sri Ganesha while learning about the deeper meaning behind the festival. 🙏

After the murthies were made, we joined together for a Samohika Sri Ganesh Pooja by our own ji Sastry, filling the space with devotion, gratitude, and shared blessings. 🌸✨

During the event, kids will be guided to create a clay Ganesha and will participate in a pooja. All materials will be provided.
