It was my distinct honor today to present Fr. Paul with a check for $5,000 to help support all the Carmel Mission’s ongoing ministries during this challenging time of isolation and social distancing. (Notice that we were following social distancing guidelines. . . 🙂)

Just over half of this money was the revenue from this years’ cancelled St. Patrick’s Day Dinner. Most of those who purchased tickets did not ask for a refund. And the prizes from the virtual raffle are still winding their way to the winners.

In addition to this gift and maintaining our individual commitments to support the Mission, the members of our Carmel Mission Knights of Columbus council will be giving what they can in additional support. Please consider doing the same. You can give through the website: www.carmelmission.org.

Postponed due to concerns of spreading Coronavirus --
We hope to reschedule in the next few weeks. However, public safety is our primary concern.

While anyone needing a refund will certainly receive one. We ask that everyone be flexible and patient as we try to find an acceptable new date. Stay tuned.

Feel free to message us with any specific concerns or requests. We will reply as quickly as possible.

Just part of who we are:

Our council donates nearly $100k every year. More than 90% stays right here in our own community, but it also goes around the world -- as far as a well that provides clean water for a school in Africa and clothes for children at an orphanage in the Philippines.

Many might think that is enough. Some go even further on their own, like Patrick Kraft.

Patrick rents a small building for the kids in the Philippines and sends them money for supplies each month. And the most beautiful part of this: After knowing Patrick for several years, and being Grand Knight for eight months, I had to dig this out of Patrick to understand the picture below. He doesn't do it for any self-aggrandizement. He does it quietly. He does it because it's the thing to do.

It is just part of who we are. We are the Knights of Columbus.

Tonight we had the distinct honor of giving away a combined $40,000 to benefit the ministry of the Carmel Mission and Junipero Serra School at our Christmas dinner.

And we will give away another $20,000 before the end of February to projects as diverse as clean water for a school in Africa, uniforms for students at an orphanage in the Philippines, blankets and beans for form workers in Salinas, and money to support monastics and seminarians right here at home.

It’s doesn’t get any better than this!

(Hopefully more pictures to come as they are collected.)

We had a great time playing BINGO last night. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped raise money that will be sent out into the world to bring comfort and peace.

Thank you especially to those enthusiastic souls who called out BINGO in song!

Last night our council voted to send $1,000 to support the Omura Orphanage in the Philippines. We are proud to be able to support the work of the church around the world. A little from us here can make a huge impact in other places!

The orphanage is in San Ysidro near Cabanatuan, which is in the province of Nueva Ecija, about 80 miles north of Manila. It usually takes a good 5 hours to get from my Shangri La Hotel in Makati City to the orphanage. There is a lot of traffic leaving Manila and once you get to the smaller roads in the country side there are many tricycles, motorcycles with sidecars and passengers that go about 20 mph.

"Thanks again for your gift. $1000 there is like $10,000 here." - Patrick

It was a day for Chef Jon Stuefloten’s most delicious lemon ricotta pancakes!

Thanks to all the Knights who rolled up their sleeves today (especially the new 1st Degrees!), and thank you to all who are breakfast. Your generous support is how we can do SO much good around our community and around the world!

If you are already hungry for more, mark your calendar for October 27.
