How do you handle conflict? For some people, the response is to simply run away from it. Does that solve anything? Jesus offers words to resolve a conflict if one feels they have been wronged by another in Matthew 18:15-20. He considers the seriousness of the matter when left unresolved and leads to broken relationships. There are stories of churches not confronting sin with the result being shrinking membership because the conflict remains unresolved. Pastor Ken Schafer at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle will be focusing on this teaching from Jesus because of the importance addressing conflict has in the growth of the church.

All are invited to attend the 10am worship service at the church, located at 1970 Clinton Street in Carlyle to hear more of the pastor's message, “Seeking the Truth”. Worship includes a singing of the familiar hymns and a time with the children. Being the first Sunday of the month, we will also be remembering the sacrifice made by Christ for our sake through Holy Communion. All are invited to join us!

Additional activities: Sunday mornings, 9am, study of the impact of the gospel according to Paul’s letter to the Galatians.
Sunday, September 13, church worship, followed by a picnic at the Fish Hatchery park at 10am. All are invited to join us at the park to enjoy the food and fellowship.
Saturday, September 19, Church BBQ on the VFW parking lot to support local missions. We will be serving up pork steaks, pulled pork, brats and hotdogs with sides. Hope to see you there!

Good morning welcome to Sunday morning worship here at Immanuel UCC in Carlyle, Illinois. Today's message comes from The Old Testament--Exodus 3:1-15 and The Gospel--Matthew16:21:28.

Beginning in Chapter 12 of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Roman Christians, he writes of the differences between people of Christ and those of worldly convictions. He says Christians should be “living sacrifices” pleasing to God. The word “sacrifice” seems quite appropriate in this context because it naturally creates a tension in us since our inclination is to do things to please ourselves rather than intentionally pleasing God through acts of service to Him. Pastor Ken Schafer at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle will be turning to Paul’s epistle in Romans 12:9-21 in the message entitled “Sacrifice?” There are many things that Jesus called his followers to do including loving our enemies and offering forgiveness to those that have wronged us or simply worshiping together in community as one under Christ. All are invited to come worship with us at the Sunday, 10am worship service at the church, located at 1970 Clinton Street in Carlyle. The service will also be available on the church's page. We sing the hymns based on scripture and offer a time with the children as they can attend “children’s church” during worship.
Other activities: Sunday mornings, 9am we gather for Bible study as we read and discuss the importance of the “gospel” in our lives.
Looking ahead: We will begin a Confirmation class for youth this Fall to help them gain a better understanding of God and the grace He offers. If anyone is interested in joining this class please call the church and leave a message: 618-594-3011.
Sunday, September 13, 10am, we will be meeting at the Fish Hatchery for worship and a picnic. All are welcome to join us.
Saturday, September 19, we will be offering BBQ on the VFW parking lot to support missions of the church including Caring-4-Carlyle and Matthew 25 Food Pantry.
Wednesday, September 23, we will be restarting our Wednesday Bible studies on the Old Testament book of Genesis with the story of Joseph and his role in the ancestry of Jesus.

For Sunday, August 23, Pastor Ken Schafer at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle will be addressing a very important issue to the lives of every one who considers themselves to be a Christian, and that is, the question Jesus asks his disciples: “Who do you say that I am?” We learn through time that the answer we are to give is “You (Jesus) is the Messiah.” Is that the right answer? One author states that most would give this answer but not understand the implications of that statement so thus they are referred to as “nominal Christians”. But is that what Jesus wants of us? Or does Jesus expect more? All are invited to the church’s 10am worship service to hear more of the pastor's message, “Is Jesus Your Lord?’ While it would be great to see you attend in person, the service is available on the church's page. Worship includes the singing of the old hymns and of a special message just for the children. We are also an avid supporter of Matthew 25 and of the Caring-4-Carlyle back-pak program for nutritional support for children in the Carlyle school district.

Wednesday studies will continue in the month of September.
