Have you ever felt alone in a crowded world? There are a lot of people that feel that way. We ask ourselves, “How can we get past that feeling?” Pastor Ken Schafer at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle will be looking at a scripture passage from Matthew 9 which tells of Jesus going to the home of a tax collector to commune with him and his friends. Jesus was criticized by the religious leaders for associating with them. True, these tax collectors weren’t perfect people but Jesus sensed a need in their lives—a need we all have, a need for relationships. What did Jesus tell them?

Come to worship with us this Sunday to hear more of the pastor's message, “The Cure for Spiritual Sickness”. Worship begins at 10am at the church, located at 1970 Clinton Street in Carlyle. The service is also available on the church's page. We will be observing Holy Communion this Sunday as well-all are welcome to join us.

Additional activities: Sunday mornings, 9am Bible study on the promise of Christ.

In the Lord’s Prayer, we pray “Thy will be done”. Are we praying for God to have His way in the world, in our lives? Or does it mean we become willing participants as His servants in the world? Pastor Ken Schafer will be turning to 2 passages from the Bible, Psalm 8 and Matthew 28 which gives us a sense of command by God in our responsibility in the care of His creation in the message, “The Duty of Man”. Sunday, May 31 is Trinity Sunday as we hear the role of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit working in God’s design of the world. Last Sunday, pastor talked about the critical role the Holy Spirit has in the lives of believers to fulfill God’s purpose. Are we open to that leading? Come hear more at the 10am worship service. We will also be honoring those graduates we are aware of at this service.

Hope you can attend!

Pentecost Sunday. For Christians, Pentecost marks the birth of the church as the promised Holy Spirit came upon those gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate the Jewish festival of the Feast of Weeks. All are invited to join us for worship at 10am at the church, located at 1970 Clinton Street in Carlyle to hear more…or check out the church’s page. The Easter season seems to be filled with surprises. We heard how Jesus and his disciples went to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover, but was arrested and cruelly put to death, not for evil acts, but for doing good. We rejoice because God raised Him from the dead and appeared to his disciples and many others. Wouldn’t it be great if the Resurrected Christ dwelt among us yet today? This coming Sunday, Pastor Ken Schafer at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle will be turning to the scriptures that tell of Jesus’ Ascension, the moment Jesus was taken into heaven to be at God’s right hand. Why did He leave? What are His followers to do without His leadership? Had Jesus abandoned us? These are questions that pastor tends to address in the message “Peace from God” based onLuke’s gospel from 24:44-53. Though the disciples weren’t aware at the moment of the Ascension, Jesus left us with a vision and instructions to go out and transform the world as He does remain with us yet today through the Holy Spirit.

All are invited to come worship with us at the 10am worship service at the church, located at 1970 Clinton Street in Carlyle. The message is also available on the church’s page. There is available Children’s church during the worship service.

Additional activities: Sunday mornings, 9am, Bible study on Old Testament scriptures foretelling of the coming of Christ. This week, we turn to the book of Ruth.
Wednesday, 5:30pm Bible study in Genesis. This week, chapters 20 & 21.

Looking ahead: Sunday, May 24, Pentecost Sunday as we rejoice in the coming of the Holy Spirit.

On Sunday, May 10, Pastor Ken Schafer at Immanuel United Church of Christ, will turn to the Apostle Peter’s first letter, chapter 3, as he writes to persecuted Christians to encourage them in their faith. He reminds them that Christ also faced persecution, even death, not for criminal behavior, but from doing good. For many, the fear of persecution keeps them from sharing their commitment of faith with others. Peter reminds us that others should be able to “see” our faith in the way we live our lives.

All are invited to worship with us to hear more of the pastor's message, “Having a Clear Conscience” as he teaches from 1 Peter 3:13-22. The service is also available on the church's page. We will also have a special tribute and gift honoring Mother’s Day.

The worship service is at 10am Sunday morning, at the church, located at 1970 Clinton Street in Carlyle.

Additional activities: Sunday mornings, 9am, Bible study on the “Coming of the Light” as we read and discuss OT prophesies of Jesus’ coming. May 10, Isaiah 65:17-25.
Wednesday, 5:30pm Bible study in Genesis.
