John 15:7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you.
This Scripture is key to understanding prayers and how they are answered. My mama was a prayer warrior. We would go to her to pray for us. It seemed like she had a direct pipeline to Jesus. Her prayers always seemed to be answered for what was prayed for. It is not that she had an easy life. She did not. She and our daddy grew up during the great depression of the 1930’s. It is not that she got everything she asked for. Mama and daddy would do without things to provide for me, my brothers, and my sister. But mama was able to find peace, joy, and comfort in any answer Jesus provided. At the time we could not understand why, but this passage answers that question. Mama was a godly woman. She told us we should live according to God's Word and His will. With her whole heart, this is what she did.
Christians are members of the body of Christ, and we are one with Him. Jesus is the radiance of God's glory and the exact expression of His nature (Hebrews 1:3). For Him to remain (live) in us we must remain (live) in Him. This is a mutual fellowship that is conditional in that we must die to self to live for Him. It was years before we understood this is what Mama did. When you live with Jesus as the center of your life you will find peace, comfort, and joy in His answers to your prayers.
Father, thank You that we have been saved by Your grace through our faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on a cross. Help us keep our thoughts in agreement with Your thoughts, our actions pleasing to You, and our words spoken in love. Lord, we pray our hearts grow to be more like the heart of Jesus. As we pray Father, may Your will be done, not ours. In Jesus' saving and holy name we pray. Amen.
