Gratitude Ministries During this Covid Pandemic we are serving those in need DAILY in Carlsbad. Church of the Advent, 399 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad 92008.

Make sandwiches bag and bring. Help between 12-1:30 and at 4 M-F, weekends around noon. Money also appreciated!

Would you help us serve a meal on Christmas Eve day?

The question of Christmas dinner is up at the moment. I think a nice dinner on Christmas eve would be nice. I would think a noon meal like we did on Thanksgiving would be the way to go. If we are to do it we will need several persons to volunteer for that day (Christmas eve) from probably about 11:00 AM until perhaps 2:00 PM. We will also need some help with the food procurement. If any one is interested in helping to make this happen let me know and we can work out the details.

Good morning all. Another beautiful day in Paradise!
I do not do Facebook but I understand this may be forwarded to some of you via Facebook. Welcome to the Feeding All God's Children email updates. I am not sure how it works when forwarding via Facebook so will include the email [email protected]

The weather is getting colder so we are getting many requests for cold weather gear. Tents, small one or two person ones, tarps, blankets, sleeping bags or backpacks. We do not stock clothing at all but if you have warm coats or jackets we can pass them on to another ministry that will pass them out. We are well stocked with socks at the moment.

We are well stocked with most hygiene items except razors and fingernail clippers.
We can always use protein or granola bars and good quality snack items.

We are out of laundry detergent, we need the powder which we can repackage into small bags or the small pods.

We are over supplied with dog food.

Our bank balance is precariously low at the moment,
there is a PayPal link below. We can accept cash at the Church. Checks can be made out to the church, Christ the Healer, with 'food ministry' in the subject line or to me, Richard Hostetter, also with 'food ministry; in the subject line.

Good Morning,

Another beautiful day in Paradise! I marvel at the Lord's goodness. How is it that I have been allowed to work for the Lord in this way? Blessings pile upon blessings.

We do have some needs. We are in need of razors, womens panties in small and medium sizes, mens boxers in med and large sizes.

We still need someone, or someones, to pick up orders on Wed, Thurs and Friday. Some more help on Friday mornings would be greatly appreciated.

List of current needs as of 3/22/21. Thank you for all of your continued support! Here is a message from Richard-

We need gloves. sleeping bags, tents, blankets, tarps, backpacks, single load size laundry soap. We also need a vacuum cleaner that works. the one we have just kind of moves stuff around on the floor.
Keep praying for us to be able to discern the Lord's path for the ministry.

For the last several weeks our Associate Priest, Clifford, has been holding a prayer and bible study meeting from 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon here at the church on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons. The attendance and the responses have been quite gratifying.

This last week we began a short Sunday service outside on the patio at 1:00 PM. We will be holding those services for the next several weeks and then we will see what happens. Personally I think the Lord is powerfully present in both of these venues.

Pray for the Lord to Bless these additional aspects of our ministry.



We need more backpacks, blankets and Bibles. Also fingernail clippers.

I was praying for Texas this morning and reflected what it would be like here if we had a stretch of zero degree weather. Much of our infrastructure here as there is not designed for freezing weather. Pray for Texas and the other places experiencing unusually cold weather. Thank the Lord that we have not been experiencing that kind of weather.
We have been having a run on tents and sleeping bags and blankets, we are low on all three. We also need beanies, gloves, backpacks and disposable shower caps.

Pray for the ministry as there is a new attempt to shut us down from one of our "neighbors" who is upset with us.

Yesterday we served 55 lunches and 67 dinners for a total for the day of 122 meals.
We have been blessed with donations of over 20 sleeping bags recently and they are almost gone. We could give out another twenty as the temperature drops. We are also getting requests for small tents. Between the time I began this and now we have received another dozen sleeping bags--they will all be gone in two or three days. We will have many requests for blankets, sleeping bags, and tents over the next couple of months. Also warm socks, gloves and hats will be in demand.
We are also very low on toothpaste, razors, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, shampoo and conditioner.

Keep the prayers steady and fervent! Have you considered giving to this wonderful ministry? How about today, Giving Tuesday!

Another beautiful day in Paradise. The Lord truly does turn all things for the good of those who love him.

We need bottled water, sleeping bags and blankets, cloth face masks in various sizes, small travel size hand sanitizer, whole kernel corn in the giant restaurant size can (2 cans), granola/protein bars. I think that is the list for today.

We served 46 lunches and 58 dinners yesterday for a total for the day of 104 meals.

Current items of what is most needed!

Tuesday we gave out 57 lunches and 86 dinners for a total of 143 for the day. Wednesday we gave out 57 lunches and 73 dinners for a total of 130 meals for the day.

Our current wish list: Razors, conditioner, baby/body wipes, small hand sanitizers, Medium size cloth face masks. bottled water, small packets of mayo and mustard.

The City of Carlsbad will be holding free COVID-19 testing for our unsheltered residents on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Church of the Advent. We are the first city in the county to test this population! I want to make this event is super successful and I was wondering if I could please ask for your support? I’d love for you to talk, message, or reach to as many people as you can about this event. Please let the homeless community know it is safe, no one is going to get arrested, or taken away from their community. Secondly, I’d love for you to attend the event! Please come out and join me and the Homeless Outreach Team on Tuesday from 2:30 – 5 p.m.!



Many cities have tried to conduct community testing and have failed, because they didn’t have the buy-in from the homeless community. I would like to ask for your help talking to the people! You are so trusted and respected that I think the event will be much more successful with your support!



Here are some basic information about the event:



The County will be sending two Strike Teams (4 RNs; 2 Ancillary staff) to the church.


Individuals will be able to walk up and receive a test. We are hoping to get 30-50 participants tested.


Two staff from the County will be there to help individuals complete the forms.


The test is an easy 1-1.5” nasal swab that is twirled in their nostril.


Results will be notified by telephone or email by the County within 5 days. People will be called regardless if they test positive or negative.


All individuals must have a phone number, email, or an alternative contact number to be tested.


We will be giving out day bus passes as an extra incentive for people who test.
