Established April 15, 1851 as Flat Rock Christian Church with the advice of James Simms, John "Raccoon" Smith, and John Rodgers, it is an autonomous body of believers seeking to follow the doctrine of the Reformation Movement of New Testament Christianity. An original ledger recorded an integrated fellowship of 146 members. For the
first 27 years, the congregation shared a building in Little Rock with the Methodists. In 1877, the congregation sold out to the Methodists. On a tract of land, purchased from Peter Banta in 1873 for $1634.93, they built a 34'X 40" frame building. it had two front doors; the men sat on one side of the building, the women on the other, Its cost was $2000 and was said to be "a comely edifice." The new site, about a quarter of a mile east of the old one, was " on the hill" overlooking the small community of little Rock. John Rodgers, age 51, served as first minister followed by L. Reynolds, who began a 25 year ministry in the new building. A total of thirty-six ministers have led the congregation. Over the years, many major structural improvements have transformed this one-room frame building into today's beautiful building. Improvements include a large auditorium, classrooms, offices, kitchen, restrooms and fellowship hall. The steeple, the stained-glass windows and many technology advances are also part of the improved church. The grounds include a large storage building and an acre park with walking track enhance the building. The current minister, Rex A Graham, began in 2001. The congregation has about 80 active members, all continuing faithfully the sacred challenge begun so long ago. From that day in April, 1851 to the present day, even in times of war, there seems to have been no interruption of the Christian Church at Little Rock. Little Rock Christian Church is in Bourbon County at 3052 Cane Ridge Road, about 12 miles from Paris, Mt. It has the distinction of being the closest active church to the historic Cane Ridge Meeting House.
