Happy Feast of Saint Josemaría Escrivá! He was a twentieth-century Spanish priest who founded Opus Dei, an organization of laypeople and priests dedicated to the universal call to holiness through God and the sanctification of everyday work. He is one of only a handful of saints (so far) to have worn glasses. He felt conflicted about his decision to embark on foot over the Pyrenees to escape religious persecution during the Spanish Civil War. Having prayed to Our Lady for a sign that it was right to leave Madrid for the relative safety of Barcelona, he found a gilded wooden rose in the snow.
