Today we introduced ourselves, had pancake bites and discussed the reading in James. We reviewed the meatball and levels of happiness: 1. Physical pleasure and possessions, 2. Ego Gratification (when you are good at something and others notice), 3. Love of others - when you care about others MORE than yourself, 4. Giving ourselves to God. Each level gives increasing amounts and longevity of happiness. We were a little rickety at remembering the details, so we will watch the original video next Sunday.
In James, we read that we are to be doers of the word and not just hearers. In our Homily from Fr. Mike, we heard about how there is always a ceiling - but, also a floor. What is your "floor level" of "doing" when pursuing a relationship with Christ? Is it simply attending Mass on Sunday, maybe reading the scripture readings of the day, spending 15 minutes in the word each day, or even just making it to confession more often? Our goal is "saint," but like we read earlier this week about the virgins with oil - we all are going to fall asleep - how are we making sure we are the virgins with the oil provisions that will last long enough to wait for the bridegroom? Lets all make sure we are AT LEAST operating at doing "the minimum" so we can keep growing towards that future goal.
