Proverbs 14:12 (ESV) — “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
There is a grievous and seductive temptation within the heart of fallen man—to chase after desires apart from GOD’S will, to seize what seems good in our own eyes, even if it means crossing the boundaries of obedience. But let this truth pierce the conscience: anything gained outside of GOD’S will must be sustained outside of GOD’S will. And that is not a blessing—it is bo***ge.
Adam and Eve tasted this bitter lesson in Eden. They saw the forbidden fruit, desired it, and took it outside of GOD’S command. But the consequence wasn't satisfaction. It was separation, exile, and death (Genesis 3:6–24). The moment you choose to act independently from GOD, you are not exercising liberty—you are entering slavery (Romans 6:16).
You cannot sin your way into blessing.
That relationship you forced against wise counsel... That job you lied to get... That platform you manipulated your way onto... That secret sin you justified as "GOD understands my heart"... You may have gotten what you wanted, but you lost what you needed—GOD’S presence, peace, and pleasure. You stepped outside the will of GOD, and now you must stay outside to keep the very thing you shouldn't have.
King Saul learned this the hard way. He refused to wait for the LORD’S timing, offered unlawful sacrifices, and spared what GOD commanded to be destroyed (1 Samuel 13–15). Saul tried to preserve his kingdom through rebellion—but the very act that secured it for a moment destroyed him in the end. GOD tore the kingdom away from him. Why? Because partial obedience is still disobedience. And what is gotten by sin cannot be sanctified.
Hear this clearly:
The LORD does not honor what He has not ordained. And He will never bless what contradicts His Word.
When you compromise to get something, you will have to compromise to keep it. But compromise eats away at the soul—it calcifies the heart and clouds your discernment until you no longer even recognize the voice of the Shepherd (John 10:27). What begins as a small step away from GOD often ends in spiritual ruin (James 1:14–15).
What then must you do?
Repent. Turn from the idols you've built outside of His will. Renounce the things you gained by fleshly striving and come back under His sovereign care. Let go of the thing you sinfully grasped, so you can receive what He graciously gives. Nothing you lose in obedience to Christ will ever outweigh what you gain in fellowship with Him (Philippians 3:7–8).
GOD’S will is not a prison—it is the pasture where the sheep find safety.
GOD’S will is not restrictive—it is redemptive.
Stop building your life on disobedience and calling it “favor.”
If you are outside of GOD’S will, no matter how comfortable or successful you feel, you are walking in rebellion—and rebellion always ends in ruin (Proverbs 28:13; Galatians 6:7–8).
Return. Repent. Rest in His will. That is the only place where lasting joy, peace, and life are found.
“The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.” — Proverbs 10:22
