St. Joseph Parish - Capulin

St. Joseph Parish - Capulin St. Josepn Parish is a Family Oriented Catholic Church in the Diocese of Pueblo under the administration of the SOLT. Joseph Mission Parish or simply St.

Joseph Parish is a Catholic Mission Church under the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT). The seat of the Parish is located at Capulin, Colorado. Capulin, Colorado is located in the San Luis Valley, the largest alpine valley in the world, and has an altitude of 7, 800 feet. The parish consists of five churches, in Capulin (St. Joseph), La Jara (Our Lady of the Valley), Romeo (Immac

ulate Conception), Mannassa (St. Theresa) and Los Sauces (St. Anthony). It is a country parish, with many of the parishoners being farmers. The families are Hispanic, and they have been in the Valley for about 150 years. The main industry for many years was sheep- farming, cattle raising, etc., but that has now decreased. The parish is part of the Diocese of Pueblo, the seat of the Diocese being in Pueblo, about 2 1/2 hours from Capulin. The SOLT came in 2004, to found the novitiate, and the parish was overjoyed with this. They were very sad to see the novitiate leave. The Sisters have a convent, which was built a few years ago, by parishoners, also in Capulin. There are quite a few laity who are now corporate members of the SOLT.. There are five Masses on the weekend, 2 on Saturday and three on Sunday, in the various churches, except for Los Sauces, which is only once a month, being small and a bit distant (about 1/2 an hour). There are also daily masses and Holy Hour on weekdays. Confessions are available every before the scheduled masses and on request.

"One thing is clear - demons know they must submit to the superior authority in the name of Jesus Christ!" T. B. Joshua

"That's what lordship is - Christ reigning as supreme authority over our life. Making Jesus Lord of our life is not something passive. It's not a state of being, it's a state of doing. Those whom Jesus recognizes as His own are those who do the will of His Father in Heaven." Keith Green

BE GOVERNED BY GOD'S AUTHORITY AND NOT MAN'S
Jude 17:20b-25, Ps 63:2-6, Mark 11:27-33
Jesus's authority came from God the Father, and this authority is meant to create the equality of love, respect for one another, unity and initiate salvation in the world. But the authority man operates on is one of greed, selfishness, monopoly of power (which creates division, conflict, war, disunity and hatred). The Chief Priest, Scribes and elders in today's gospel reading couldn't answer Jesus's question because they prefer to live in denial of Jesus's authority and want to continue to live in the darkness of the authority of man.

Beloved in Christ, if we know the authority of Jesus and still choose to live by man's authority, we are deceiving ourselves and denying ourselves the light of Christ which illumes and heals the soul from the darkness of sin.

Nota Bene: The letter from Jude as seen above has only one chapter. What you see above is Jude verse 17 to 25. Cf The letter from Jude.

THIS SHOULD NOT BE SO AMONG YOU
1 Peter 1:18-25, Ps 147: 12-15. 19-20, Mark 10:32-45

We live in a generation where some people want money, position, titles and power without working hard to get them. It is a world of ready-made things, less work but need more money, less effort but need more results, no pain but need more gain. This is why in today's gospel reading, when Jesus spoke about His intending passion, the two sons of Zebedee wanted to avoid the cross but wanted to wear the crown of glory in God's kingdom.

To this end, Jesus called the attention of all His disciples to instruct them how the kingdom of God works. To get there, you do not lord glory upon yourself, you rather work hard for it. And to be there, you must be the servant and slave of all (that is, you must be ready to lead by example: slaving for all while serving). You may lord money, titles, positions and wealth upon yourself on earth, but this is not the same with entering the kingdom of God. Summarily, Jesus invites us as His disciples to become servant leaders.

To be the first in God's kingdom, we must be ready to serve, take the pain on behalf of others just like Jesus sacrificed His life for unworthy sinners to redeem them from sin. To do this, the love of everyone must be in our hearts even to the point of sacrificing our life and the thing we hold dear to our hearts just to save others around us from shame; even when such persons are not worthy of our love and sacrifices.

REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS
1 Peter 1:10-16, Ps 98:1-4, Mark 10:28-31
To rejoice in the Lord always means to do what today's first reading suggested which is "You shall be holy, for I am holy." And today's gospel reading presents us with the reward of being holy and doing God's will at all times and that is the blessings of this life and eternal life with God in heaven.

When God blesses us with the things of the world, He is not encouraging us to live a life of debauchery but a holy way of life by rejoicing in the Lord always. How are we to rejoice in the Lord always and not in the world? "By rejoicing in truth, not in iniquity, rejoicing in the hope of eternity, not in the flower of vanity, by letting joy in the Lord conquer until joy in the world comes to an end, by letting joy in the Lord increase and joy in the world decrease. So, rejoice wherever you are, however long you are here, the Lord is at hand, do not be anxious."(2nd reading: Office of the reading of today)

Jesus in today's gospel reading does not just ask us to preach the gospel and follow Him but He also promises us the reward of eternity with Him for doing this. This is our hope as Christians. So, friends in Christ, do not grow weary in doing what is good Gal 6:9. Keep on doing good for at the end of your stay on earth, the reward will surely come to you... Be patient and persist in good deeds and holy ways of life. St Philip Neri - Pray for us.

Daily Reflection
YOUR YES TO GOD'S WILL CAN TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE FOR THE BETTER.
Gen 3:9-15, 20, Ps 86(87), John 19:25-34
Today's first reading presents us with the fall of man and God's pronouncement of punishment for man's disobedience. On the other hand, today's gospel reading presents us with the redemption of man through the fiat (Yes) of the Blessed Virgin Mary. And this was the reason why Jesus on the cross handed Mary His mother to the care of John as well as John to Mary to her maternal care. By extension, Jesus handed to humanity Mary as their mother as well as humanity to the maternal intercession of Mary.

Friends in Christ, the 'no' of Eve destroyed God's plans for humanity but the 'yes' of Blessed Virgin Mary restored it. The 'no' of Eve brought condemnation to man but the 'yes' of the Blessed Virgin Mary exonerated man. The 'no' of Eve brought upon man a curse but the 'yes' of the Blessed Virgin Mary redeemed man and brought man blessings.

As we celebrate the memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary today, we are called to say yes to God's will in our life. Saying yes to God's will sometimes may bring us discomfort, pain, suffering, persecution, rejection, trials and temptations... (making heaven was never said to be a bed of roses) we are called to say yes anyway. For every 'yes' you say to God's will, you bring upon humanity blessings, restoration, fulfillment, repair, upliftment and growth. However, to every 'no' you say to God's will, you bring upon humanity a curse, denial of your good presence, suffering upon those who should have enjoyed your talent and skills, recession and underdevelopment.

Friends in Christ, as we celebrate Memorial Day today, we are called to say yes to the will of God for our country. Your 'yes' will bring growth to our country, protect a lot of lives and properties and development to the entire country. This 'yes' of yours may bring you and your family discomfort and pain but your services to humanity will never go in vain. Say yes to God's will today, to put a smile on God's face. HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY. MARY MOTHER OF THE CHURCH - PRAY FOR US

THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES TO RENEW
Acts 2:1-11, Ps 104:1ab.24ac.29bc-31 and 34, 1Cor 12:3b-7, 12-13, John 20:19-23
On this day of Pentecost that is 50 days after Jesus's resurrection, the promise of the Father is fulfilled by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. Jesus today fulfilled the promise He made at ascension of sending us the advocate that will lead us to the truth, liberate us from the bo***ge of sin and fear and renew us from worldliness to become an instrument in the hands of God.

"Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of the faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth." This is the opening prayer to the Holy Spirit in the novena to the Holy Spirit.

Why this prayer? This prayer takes us back to the beginning of creation when God breathed His Spirit into the nostrils of man to give man life. Gen 2:7. This prayer is said at the beginning of the novena to the Holy Spirit to help us feel God's presence and to be in the Spirit free from distractions in order to pray to God properly. This prayer also takes us back to today's first reading... how the apostles were locked in a room for fear of the Jews but with the outpouring of the Spirit, fear gave way to courage, timidity gave way to boldness, low self-esteem gave way to high self-esteem, a dead situation gave way to life and renewal, pride gave way to humility, hatred gave way to love, unforgiveness gave way to forgiveness, division gave way to unity.

This means that without the Holy Spirit in us, there is no life in us. Just like rain and moisture is to the soil, giving it the capacity to grow plants, that is how the Holy Spirit is in us giving us life, courage, inspiration and spiritual power to minister to God's people. This means without the Holy Spirit, our life, family, community, marriages, workplaces will be dead and full of vices. So, the Spirit comes to burn up every evil and vices holding these places captive and unproductive to become free and productive.

This does not just happen without our effort. Before the apostles got the breath of the Holy Spirit, they were in a room praying for it. Before I got out of being an introvert, I prayed for two years before my ordination for the gift of the Spirit. That is why the Catholic Church suggested to us the novena to the Holy Spirit before Pentecost. If truly we need the Spirit in us to deal with the vices holding us captive, we too must pray for the gift of the Holy Spirit in our life, family, marriages, community to come and burn up every evil holding us captive and set us free from the bo***ge of sin.
