Islamic Research and Humanitarian Services Center of America The meetings were held in private homes, but soon the numbers grew from the original group of nine.

In 1999 a small group of Muslim families began pursuing Islamic knowledge under the leadership of Sheikh Abdul-Rahman Yaki, who had just graduated from the School of Islamic and Social Sciences in Virginia. The group decided to search for a larger site and after a few months, negotiations were in place to secure the current facility in Capitol Heights, Maryland. A Shura Board was established and w

ithin one year a proposal to purchase the property was drafted. The name selected for the organization was the Islamic Research and Humanitarian Service Center of America (IRHSCA). This name reflected the founders’ belief that the main objectives should be to both pursue knowledge of the Islamic sciences and serve humanity. The organization was rooted in principles such as inclusion and the shunning of character assassination. It has also become a leader in the improvement of Muslim marriages and family relations. IRHSCA now regularly conducts Jummah Salat that accommodates nearly 500 weekly worshipers as well as a full range of Islamic curriculum and a program designed to assist new converts, and increase the knowledge of the general community.

As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
Today I want to make a sincere appeal — particularly to the Muslim community, but also to the broader African-American community throughout the DMV area.
For more than 30 years, a business called Sweet Tooth has faithfully served our community from the 5600 block of Ritchie Road in Capitol Heights, Maryland. What began as a bakery evolved into a café, and now has grown into a beautiful restaurant in the Anacostia corridor — a restaurant that honestly stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the finest dining establishments in the Washington, D.C. area.
Yet despite the excellence, despite the vision, despite the sacrifice… it is still struggling.
Not because the food is not exceptional. Not because the atmosphere is not beautiful. Not because the service is lacking.
It struggles because too many of us still do not fully understand the value of supporting what truly belongs to and invests back into our own communities.
Sweet Tooth is more than a restaurant.
It is halal. It is Black-owned. It is community-rooted. It is a training ground for future chefs and entrepreneurs.
Chef Stephen Thomas, the owner, came from professional culinary training through Marriott and continued advancing his craft through higher education and certification. He later became a culinary instructor at Prince George’s Community College, helping train hundreds of students who now work in some of the finest restaurants throughout the Washington metropolitan area.
And beyond business — Sweet Tooth has always shown up for the community.
Whenever there was a community need… Whenever youth needed opportunity… Whenever masajid or families needed support… Whenever there was a cause to uplift…
Sweet Tooth was often among the first to respond.
So today I simply ask:
Will we now show up for Sweet Tooth?
Will we intentionally dine there? Will we tell others about it? Will we bring our families, organizations, and friends? Will we support something that has consistently supported us?
We often speak about economics, ownership, empowerment, and building institutions. But those things only survive when communities intentionally sustain them.
This is not charity. This is investment. This is preservation. This is community responsibility.
Please make the effort to visit, support, and spread the word.
May Allah bless every sincere effort to build and preserve beneficial institutions within our communities.

As salaam alaikum, Respected Musilms I want take the time to share a very important concern
The Upcoming Presidential Election. I am not here to push or bash any candidate. I want to address the importance of this great Civic Duty as an American Citizen , irregardless of ethnicity.
I am aware this feed is some what lengthy, but believe me this 2024 Election is a game changer.

Encouraging the Muslim constituency to vote is crucial for several reasons:

Benefits of Voting

1. **Representation**: Voting ensures that the interests and concerns of the Muslim community are represented in government. When more Muslims vote, politicians are more likely to consider their needs and viewpoints when making decisions.

2. **Influence**: Even if no party perfectly aligns with every religious or political belief, voting gives the community a say in shaping policies that affect everyone. It allows Muslims to have a voice in matters like education, healthcare, civil rights, and foreign policy.

3. **Civic Duty**: Voting is a civic responsibility. In many Islamic teachings, participating in societal duties that promote justice and welfare aligns with core religious values. Being part of the democratic process can be seen as fulfilling a communal obligation.

4. **Countering Stereotypes**: A higher turnout among Muslim voters can help counter negative stereotypes and misconceptions. Active participation in the democratic process demonstrates that Muslims are engaged citizens who contribute positively to society.

5. **Long-term Impact**: Elections influence not just immediate policies but also the future direction of the country. By voting, Muslims can help shape a society that better reflects their values and aspirations.

Why Vote Even When Disagreeing with Parties?

1. **Choosing the Lesser of Two Evils**: Often, elections are about choosing the candidate or party that aligns closest to your values, even if not perfectly. Voting allows you to support the option that may do the least harm or the most good, even if it is not an ideal choice.

2. **Holding Leaders Accountable**: By participating in elections, voters can hold elected officials accountable. If a politician knows that a significant portion of the Muslim community votes, they are more likely to listen to their concerns and take them seriously.

3. **Preventing Negative Outcomes**: Sometimes, voting is less about endorsing a candidate and more about preventing one whose policies could be harmful. Voting against a party or candidate that threatens community values can be a strategic way to protect the community.

4. **Supporting Allies**: Voting can help elect candidates who may not fully align with religious views but are supportive of key issues important to the Muslim community, such as combating Islamophobia, promoting social justice, or ensuring religious freedoms.

Encouraging the Muslim constituency to vote is about fostering a sense of empowerment, ensuring representation, and participating actively in shaping a just society for all. Even when complete agreement with a political party or candidate is not possible, voting is still a powerful tool to influence change and promote community interests.
Inclosing : Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about the ruling on elections, and he replied: I think that elections are obligatory; we should appoint the one who we think is good, because if the good people abstain, who will take their place? Evil people will take their place, or neutral people in whom there is neither good nor evil, but they follow everyone who makes noise. So we have no choice but to choose those who we think are fit.
