Justin McEntire , tag your mom in this as I cant since I am not friends with her on FB and can only reply to her... Anyway, here is some information and a 30 sec video on the father of Betty King (Betty Holland King).... your new 3rd Cousin: As you go through your day today, please say a prayer for my Uncle Eston, Aunt Margaret, and cousin Betty Holland.
On this day in History, October 5, 1944, my Great Uncle Eston "Eck" Holland died at Cherry Point, NC. He was born on July 7, 1910 to James W Holland (age 31) and Jessie Louise Stamey (age 28). He was married at 22 years old to Margaret Geraldine Brown on May 31, 1933 in Nash County, NC. They lived at 136 Williams Street in Canton and had one daughter, Betty Holland King in 1934. He Volunteered and Enlisted in the Unites States Marine Corps on March 18, 1944 and was killed 164 days later. My Aunt Margaret eventually married Weaver Brown in 1950. While her wishes were to be buried by Eck, is now buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in West Asheville, NC. Her second husband is still alive and lives out of state. Upon his death he plans to have his body burried beside Margaret in Candler. At that point, we will engrave the Eck & Margaret Headstone with her date of death and where her final resting place is. That spot will forever remain empty. If Weaver Brown ends up being buried out of state, then we have given our word that we would have the remains of Aunt Margaret moved to Locust Field Cemetery beside Eston E. Holland as per her final wishes. As for Betty Lou Holland, she married Allen Frederick who passed away in 2014. Betty is now 82 and lives in Asheville, NC and will be attending our Cemetery Community Day this Saturday the 8th. Additionally, because she and her family do not plan to use the remaining spot that Aunt Margaret had at Locust Field, she most generously returned it to me a couple of months ago. Additionally, she share photos and stories about Uncle Eck with me. Attached below is a 7 photo slideshow. 1) Eck with his mother Jessie Stamey Holland, 2) The Beautiful Widow of Eck, Margaret Brown Holland, 3) Betty Lou Holland with her grandmother Jessie Louise Stamey, 4) Newspaper publication of death of Uncle Eck, 5) Tear stained Western Union Telegram notification of death of Pvt.
