Congregational United Church of Christ - Canton, Ohio

Congregational United Church of Christ - Canton, Ohio A growing Open and Affirming community of faith where No matter Who You Are or Where You Are on Life's Journey YOU are Welcome Here! Our thinking is not. Why?

Who we are...

Our faith is 2,000 years old. We believe in God's continuing testament. This is why we are committed to hearing God's ancient story anew and afresh in our lives and in the world today. We try to remain attentive to God's creative movement in the world. Religion and science are not mutually exclusive, and your head and heart are both welcomed into our places of worship. We prepare our members and leaders to be engaged in ministry in the present and future church, and we embrace all kinds of communities and new modes of thinking. Because God is still speaking,

No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here! We believe in extravagant welcome. This is why we insist that God's communion table is open, not closed, and God's gift and claim in baptism are irrevocable. We advocate justice for all. Our congregations extend hospitality as a sign of God's inclusive love. We teach that evangelism — offering bread to those in search of it — is God's mission. Our perspective is global, not provincial. We work with — not against — people of other faiths. Because God is still speaking,

Never place a period where God has placed a comma. We believe the church's mission is to change lives — individually, systemically and globally. We work to make transformation possible, but trust in God's grace. This is why we insist that churches must be places of vitality in worship, learning and advocacy. We are committed to working for justice, and we believe that lives are changed through global experiences and friendships. Because God is still speaking,

🙏🏾 Creator God Creating Still,

You are constantly making all things new.

You keep your covenants and you send Jesus into our midst to fulfill your promise of new life in times of despair.

May we never give up hope for the coming of your just and peaceful kingdom on Earth as it is in Heaven. Amen.

🙏 Creator God:

We hear the wailing of your people in war torn lands. People are dying at the hands of those in power, who are removed from the horror and violence of war.

We stand as your people, guided by the Prince of Peace to say NO to war and NO to killing of children and destroying peoples lives who are our siblings.

Move us to speak up and out about war as a solution. May peace prevail as we stand up and speak out. Amen.

🙏🏾 God of gentleness and peace, we often see peace as the absence of turmoil, the absence of conflict, the absence of all the ways humans desecrate one another and the planet. Help us to know your peace all of the time, no matter what the circumstance of our lives and the life of our world. Inspire us to bring peace to every encounter, every opportunity.

This Sunday, Pastor Dennis' sermon is titled "Forgiveness" based on Matthew 18:21-35. We hope you can join us at 10:00 a.m. either in person or on-line.

"True forgiveness—in a Christian sense—only comes when God graces us with it. Our forgiveness isn’t ours to give; it’s God’s to share. And when God gives it to us, we have to turn it over. That’s the command.
So forgive—by the grace of God—forgive.
By the grace of God alone."

Written by Kaji Douša, Senior Pastor of The Park Avenue Christian Church, a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ, in New York City, for the March 28, 2023 UCC Daily Devotional.

🙏🏾 Abba, I come with sighs too deep to name.

Open our eyes where we’ve caused harm; break through our blindness and turn our hearts back to You-the One who sees, loves, and restores.

Awaken what is numb, revive what has withered, soften what has grown cold.

Rekindle Your Spirit’s fire within us.

Have mercy for the ways we’ve failed Your heart.

Jesus, help us return, repent, rise up, and walk in Your mercy and justice, Amen.
