The demanding schedule, expectations, criticisms, interruptions, emotional weight, and seasons of crisis, are often carried by the pastor’s spouse and family as well.

A healthy ministry should not come at the expense of a healthy marriage.

A shared calling is a meaningful part of a marriage. But it can also leave little uninterrupted time for a couple to be present to one another.

After 34 years in ministry, one pastoral couple told us this was the first time they had intentionally set aside time for a retreat together.

Pastors need more than professional networks.
They need friends.

They need people who understand ministry without evaluating their performance. People with whom they can laugh, speak honestly, ask difficult questions, and admit when the weight feels heavy.

Grace Valley's Pastor Groups and Leader Retreats are designed to create more than useful content. They create space for relationships that can continue long after an event has ended.

Rest does not mean that nothing meaningful is happening.

Rest gives our bodies time to recover, our emotions room to settle, and our relationships space to reconnect.

Our awareness of God deepens, and we begin to notice what hurry and worry have kept hidden.

When churches encourage healthy rhythms of rest, they are not lowering expectations for ministry leaders.

Slowing down can feel uncomfortable when our lives are built around constant movement, tasks and noise.

When there is no sermon to prepare, phone to answer, meeting to lead, or problem to solve, we may begin to notice what has been happening within our own souls.

Silence and solitude are not escapes from ministry.

They are practices that help us become attentive to God and to get honest about what we are carrying.
