In Colossians 1:24-29 we are given guidelines for Pastors as well as responsibilities each church must fulfill. These are to expect and endure persecution with joy, preach the Word of God in all its fullness, to preach a personal relationship with Christ (Christ IN YOU, the hope of glory), to proclaim, admonish, and teach Biblical principles, and (the end goal of all church ministry) to present every believer complete (mature) in Christ. This is an excellent road map for every preacher and church which would fully follow Christ.

Jesus has bridged the great gap between sinful man and Holy God. In Reconciliation, the sinner stands before God as an enemy, but becomes His friend. We need reconciliation because, as sinners, we are at war with God. But Jesus fulfilled God's plan to reconcile all things to Himself, both the fallen and cursed creation, and mankind. The means of reconciliation is through the death of His Holy Son, Jesus; it is through the blood of the cross. The goal of Reconciliation is that we may be presented to the Father, holy and blameless and beyond reproach. The evidence of Reconciliation is perseverance in the faith.

On the Damascus Road, Saul (Paul) asked "Who are you Lord?" People today ask, "Who is Jesus?" Is he simply a good man, a moral teacher, or is he God in the flesh? Paul clarifies exactly who Jesus is to the Colossian church, for there were teachers who were presenting Jesus as less than he is. A false or incomplete view of Jesus will no save. This passage (Colossians 1:15-19) is the clearest teaching found in the New Testament about the true identity of Jesus, the Son of God.

God has revealed how we are to live in a "worthy manner." In Colossians 1:9-14 author Paul describes God's will for every believer. Most believers spend much time trying to discern God's particular will for their lives and forget that God has revealed His general will for us. His general will, when followed, will inform and direct us to His particular will. In this prayer we find the guidance to live in a manner pleasing to God.

Beginning Colossians.

One of four letters written by Paul from a Roman prison, Colossians emphasizes the sufficiency and supremacy of Jesus Christ. He is fully God. Colossians is a book pleading for Christian maturity. In the first eight verses the Gospel defines who we are: Saints, in Christ, and saved by grace. But he also says that there are expectations from being saved, we are to be fruitful and increasing in true knowledge of God, committed to knowing God better.

We finish the Book of Acts with this sermon. Paul finally gets to Rome after the shipwreck on Malta. He is met on the way by believers who heard of his arrival, and is greatly encouraged. Upon arriving in Rome he is transferred to the custody of the Pretorian Guard, housed in private quarters and waits two years for an appearance before Caesar. As Luke does not cover Paul's death, it is believed that he was released after two years and was rearrested sometime later. Tradition states that Paul was beheaded by Nero sometime after 64 A.D. The Book of Acts covers only the first 35 years of the history of the Church, but the story is continuing. We are part of this story.
