Pope Leo XIV loves baseball. Could he canonize the sport's patron saint?

There's someone at the top of the order for such a designation: Blessed Michael McGivney. Not only was the Connecticut priest the founder of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a big promoter of baseball--and a pretty good player himself.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

In today’s Gospel, Jesus extends a simple but profound invitation: bring your burdens to Him. He does not promise a life without trials, but He does promise His presence, His peace, and the strength to carry every cross.

The Lord reveals Himself to humble hearts that trust in Him. When we walk beside Christ, even our heaviest burdens become lighter because we no longer carry them alone.

🙏 Lord, teach us to rest in You, to trust in Your gentle and humble heart, and to find renewed strength in Your love.

Happy Independence Day!

As we celebrate the birth of our nation, we give thanks for the blessings of freedom and the countless men and women who have worked to preserve it throughout our history.

For more than a century, Knights of Columbus have sought to serve both God and country through lives of faith, charity, and patriotism. Today, let us pray for the United States, that our country may always uphold the dignity of every human person, protect religious liberty, and seek the common good. May God bless America and guide us in building a more just and charitable society.

Every human person possesses a dignity that cannot be earned, lost or measured by worldly standards. In Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV reminds us that our worth comes first from God, who creates and loves each person without condition. This truth calls us to see others, and ourselves, with greater reverence, mercy, and care.

How might remembering the God-given dignity of every person change the way we speak, serve or respond today?
