Canton neighbors who have flood damage are encouraged to report it using the form in this post, which is related to the state of emergency declared in The City of Canton - Illinois by Mayor Kent McDowell.
𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝟴-𝟮𝟭-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲
Communities, community partners, public safety agencies, disaster relief organizations, and others from across Fulton County are working together as part of a coordinated, large-scale response effort. Earlier this week, the Governor’s Office issued a disaster proclamation that included Fulton County. This proclamation will make additional state resources and personnel available to support continued local response efforts and recovery operations. This is an important step forward in the process of seeking potential federal assistance for residents impacted by the flooding. The next critical step is documenting and reporting all flood-related damage throughout Fulton County.
Residents are strongly encouraged to report any damage to their homes or property. Reporting damage is essential to helping local officials document the full extent of the disaster and will support efforts to seek potential state and federal assistance for affected residents.
“It is essential for everyone in our community who the flooding has impacted to get in their request for assistance,” said Canton Mayor Kent McDowell. “It has come to my attention that a very minimal number of households have requested assistance. I urge our residents to take the time to complete the Disaster Survey so they can be included in the overall damage tally. It will go a long way to potentially helping them and the rest of our community.”
To date, more than 100 homes have been impacted by floodwater, and that number is expected to increase as survey efforts continue and expand. Additionally, teams from area nonprofit organizations will begin meeting with and assisting residents starting Friday, August 21.

•This voluntary survey collects information on disaster damages to guide next steps. It does not guarantee federal assistance. Your information may be shared with emergency management officials and partner agencies.
•Report only regarding your primary residence. If you rent, focus on personal property and habitability.
•Be as accurate as possible; estimates are okay if exact details are unknown.
•If your home is inaccessible or unsafe, note that and avoid entering.
•Completion time: 10-15 minutes.

For those residents who cannot fill out the form online:
The libraries in Canton, Cuba and now Fairview also have computers with internet access and a link to complete the form. The Canton, Cuba and Fairview libraries are set up with easy access for residents to complete the form.
For residents who cannot complete the form online or go to a local library, call 211! This is a new service recently established in Fulton County to help bring resource education and assistance to our area residents. If you cannot do any of the above options, contact 211 by dialing 211 or calling 309-999-4029.
Current Illinois SNAP customers may be eligible for replacement SNAP benefits if there was a power outage of over 4 hours or food was destroyed. Forms need to be received within 10 days.

Lastly, we close with this. This will be a long process, a marathon, not a sprint. Please know that the Flood Response Coalition communicates daily to help bring in resources for those in need. Community groups from across the state, made up of volunteers who help residents in need, are being contacted to pool resources, and a lot is going on behind the scenes. Further updates will follow.
