“How can God do nothing?” I was asked this question during a recent Q&A. The ache in her faith was real. And I very much understood it.

Maybe you do too.

It can be so easy to assume God is doing nothing when in reality He’s just arranging a slow working miracle. One that can’t yet be detected with the human eye.

Or, He’s doing something that doesn’t line up with our expectations of what He could do... what we feel He should do.

So we don’t see it. Or, we are looking so hard in a different direction, we aren’t detecting what God is doing.

It’s confusing and hard to trust God when we don’t understand the hurt he sometimes allows and we feel so blindsided by heartbreak.

I won’t write a line or two that makes wrestling through deep pain more tidy than it ever is when living through it. Crying through it. Barely hanging on through it.

But I will say this. God is good at being God.

That doesn’t make the pain go away. But maybe it can comfort us.

He does love us. He does know best. He won’t leave. He’s not trying to hurt us... but He is absolutely in process of helping us, growing us, showing us. ❤️

Have you ever wished God would explain why He let that heartbreaking rejection come your way? Why that job … that friendship … that relationship didn’t work out?

Me, too, sweet friend.

That’s why I love the encouragement we can find in the imagery of Psalm 91:4, “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” (NIV)

God’s covering keeps us safe, even if we can’t see the full picture of all that He is doing for us. Baby birds under their mother’s wing rarely know the full story of what happens on the outside. They don’t need to know all of the details, and I’m learning neither do we.

We just need to keep our hearts positioned close to Him in trust. He will shield us from the enemy’s darts of doubt and discouragement. And He will surround us with His reassurances and perfect love.

Instead of stressing over all of the “why” questions tonight, let’s just try resting in the shadow of His wings.

Everything bad comes from Satan. Everything good comes from God. There’s no grey area.
When I started leading the youth full time my husband was in the oilfield (New Mexico/West Texas) having one of the worst hitches of his life. He went to work every day expecting the worst and I felt it everytime he called. I was home not working but a day or two a week. I was slowly going into deep depression worrying about my husband. I had two panic attacks in a 72 hour period and had no energy to rebuke Satan. I had been warned about Satan and how he’d attack me once I started living out the plan he had for me.
During this awful hitch, a rumor surfaced that could crush my marriage. The worst part, Satan used someone we love and respect to start the rumor. I remember begging for God to keep this rumor from my husband and God did. I ended up telling him of the rumor after he got off the rig and to my surprise he didn’t react. He said, “If Satan is using someone to try and create strife between us we must be exactly where God wants us.”
🙌🏼🙌🏼😭😭 talk about words of wisdom! Satan wants to destroy the plan God has for you, to kill the joy you get from the blessings God has given you, and to steal the truth and replace it with lies. Satan is only going to attack what’s threatening to him.
Satan was attacking us because God was blessing us. Shortly after all this, we closed on our dream land, paid off my car, and my husband went to a safer rig up north. JUST LIKE THIS VERSE SAYS.
Remember, there’s no grey area.
