An update from Pastor Sean:
Many of you already know that on June 7th I was in a motorcycle accident just outside of Westcliffe. I was forced to swerve to avoid oncoming traffic and then lost control of the bike in the gravel. Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved. I was taken by flight for life to UC Health Memorial Central where I was treated in the trauma care unit for multiple injuries. I had shattered almost all my ribs on the right side, both front and back, broke my collarbone, shattered my right scapula, fractured multiple thoracic vertebrae, lacerated my kidney, and punctured my lung. Because the lung was punctured, I needed a chest tube. After a week I was released.
I had to return two days later because the chest tube had resulted in an infection that spread into my lung area and bloodstream. They performed emergency surgery to clean out the chest cavity and remove a portion of the infected, damaged lung. The surgery was more complicated than they hoped, and it took a turn for the worse. The surgeons put me on a ventilator and gave me several units of blood and worked to keep my lung open and blood pressure up. I was in a fragile state, and my survival was uncertain. But, by the grace of God, my lung began to work, and I was taken off the ventilator the next day.
I spent the next several days in the ICU and the remainder of the 10 days in the surgical trauma unit. That Thursday I was released to come home to finish my recovery. I am still on IV antibiotics until July 15th if all goes well. My pain is being managed, and my continued healing is in God's hands.
Through this whole thing my wife and I have seen the hand of God in very real and miraculous ways. He is the God who gives life and the God sustains life. He is the only reason why I am alive today. I want to thank all the medial professionals that God has used in this journey along the way. Their sacrificial care has been humbling. Thank you also, Pastor Curtis and the leadership team for caring for and guiding the church in my absence. My wife and I are grateful for our church family, for the church at large and our community. Thank you for your prayers and all the practical ways you have reached into our lives to love us and serve us through this difficult time. May God be glorified!
