Beware of any presentation of the gospel that stops with recieving Christ and does not talk about following.

Salvation is not an experience. It is in Christ, and we must walk with Him if we would experience that saving power. Salvation comes through His presence.

John understood this when he said,
"If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin." (1 John 1:7)

ARE YOU CLOSE TO JESUS?

The two thieves on the crosses carry a message still today - A message for me? A message for you?

The thief could not have been more than a few feet from Jesus, hearing every cry, murmur and whisper that came from the lips of Jesus.

God had brought this man within feet of Jesus, yet the thief cursed Jesus. "Save yourself and us!"

It is possible to be this close to The Christ and still miss Him.
One of His apostles did. One can be in church every Sunday and miss Him. John Wesley did until age 35. One can be in ministry and miss Him.

Remember that it was the chief priest who plotted His crucifixion. The supreme tragedy of human history is that many who are closest to Christ miss Him and are lost.

He is close to you today. We must not miss Him!

In my Pentecost sermon last week, I mentioned that

"We are empowered to say NO to temptation and YES to The Fathers will in every circumstance. Jesus WON where Adam LOST- although temptation will come - we can say NO. We are not just saved from the penalty of sin, but from its power."

Today in my devotional reading I came across this.

In the stories of the Desert Fathers, Abbot John the Dwarf prayed to the Lord that his passion be taken from him. His prayer was granted so that he became impassable. And in this condition he went to one of the elders and said:

"You see before you a man who is completely at rest and has no more temptations.:

The elder said: Go and pray to the Lord to command some struggle to be stirred in you, for the soul is matured only in battles.

And when temptations started up again he did not pray that the struggle be taken from him, but only said: Lord give me strength to get through the fight.
